☀️ Going solar! This paediatric hospital in Bauchi, Nigeria, used to need 200 litres of fuel per day to have enough electricity. Now, 96 solar panels have completely replaced the old generators! These solar panels are providing more consistent electricity and cutting costs for the hospital.

Info
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is the world's leading independent international medical relief organization, implementing and managing medical projects in close to 72 countries worldwide and as a worldwide movement of 25 associations, 24 sections, 17 offices and 6 operational entities. Our work focuses on emergency medical and humanitarian relief. We are guided by the principles of independence, neutrality and impartiality, as described in the MSF Charter. We implement our medical programs in areas where no health or sanitary systems exist, or where health structures are overwhelmed by the needs of populations. For 50 years, we have been providing medical assistance to people affected by armed conflicts, natural disasters, disease epidemics, malnutrition crises and other emergencies. We offer medical and humanitarian assistance to people based on their needs - irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. We observe neutrality in situations of conflict, and impartiality in the name of medical ethics. To ensure our independence, the majority of our funding is provided by private donations from members of the public. Additional funding may come from foundations, governments and international institutions.

Our colleague Dr. Mohammed Fadlalla is ringing in the new year from Sudan: “Wishing you all a beautiful beginning to 2025.” We wish everyone around the world a very happy and healthy new year. ❤️

“This isn’t just about vaccinations. It’s about working together to prevent a health crisis from getting worse.” A measles outbreak swept through Rokero, Sudan, that affected over 1,000 people—mostly children under 5 years old—earlier this year. To control the outbreak and protect vulnerable lives, we launched a vaccination campaign with support from community leaders. Our goal was to spread awareness of the vaccination campaign by travelling to remote villages and setting up clinics in whatever public spaces were available, like schools, markets, and health facilities. Routine immunization programs, nutritional support, and investments in health care infrastructure are critical to preventing future outbreaks. #TalkAboutSudan https://lnkd.in/e_MJYzER

👋 Meet Rhoda Awanyah, our midwife supervisor at the Kushari comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care centre in Maiduguri, Nigeria! In this photo she is holding a baby who is about to go home. Rhoda tells us about her work in the newly opened centre ⬇️ “Borno state has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in Nigeria, but our collaboration is making a difference. The impact is huge. In June, we had 35 admissions; by July, that number doubled. This month, we’ve already admitted 119 patients. The numbers clearly show we’re making a positive impact.”

It’s important you know what’s happening to thousands of Rohingya people in Rakhine state, Myanmar. ⤵️ In recent months, thousands of Rohingya people have fled escalating violence in Myanmar to seek refuge in displacement camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Those who have managed to cross the border described their horrific journeys—which often took several days— to our colleagues at the camps. Many people described having witnessed their loved ones die in front of them. Others were forced to sell their remaining possessions in order to afford to travel. There's now an overwhelming amount of people seeking shelter in Cox’s Bazar displacement camps. The many people already living there must now share their food rations and tight living space—even though access to food, proper shelter, and sanitation is already very limited. Stéphanie Hoffman, former MSF project coordinator in Cox’s Bazar, shared more behind the situation and what people are experiencing.

“The recent military offensive in the north is a stark illustration of the brutal war the Israeli forces are waging on Gaza, and we are seeing clear signs of ethnic cleansing...” - Chris Lockyear, MSF secretary general. A ceasefire is needed now to save Palestinian lives. More in our latest report: https://lnkd.in/gf9h8_5U

Airstrikes. Shelling. Incursions into hospitals. Our staff have endured 41 of these attacks and violent incidents by the Israeli forces in Gaza in the last year. Israel’s allies must act now to protect Palestinians and uphold the rules of war. Our latest report: https://lnkd.in/gf9h8_5U

We're talking children with amputations that can be much better managed outside of Gaza. Why forbid a 4-year-old child to leave [Gaza] when they know very well that this child has no hope of survival because of the war that's going on? They should be able to leave. A heart-wrenching interview with MSF’s Karin Huster: https://lnkd.in/e9ixDkge
