His presentation strongly supports our view on DAO governance design. At Optimal DAO, we believe that most #DAOs are currently plutocratic at their core, where money can buy voting rights - typically the economic token coincides with the governance token. Even the tiny minority that have escaped this pitfall will have to solve Sybil attacks. PoP (Proof of Personhood) is the master key to finally allowing true decentralisation. Launching Optimal DAO with a fair exchange of value in all activities A very interesting paper by Costin Oarda addresses the Principal-Agent problem due to informational asymmetry, where the people offering a product or service, are better informed than the users and community. What caught my attention was that the Optimal DAO would have several tokens in the ecosystem: - OPTIU is the DAO’s usage token and a non-transferable and non-burnable NFT usage token, designed to be a usage indicator and confer specific rights to the users who own it. The supply is uncapped and strictly non-decreasing - OPTIB is the DAO’s board token and a transferable and non-burnable NFT token allocated to board members for the agile execution of DAO operational decisions and protection in critical events. Its supply is constant. It is initially allocated to the founder and early advisors. It is transferable by a vote of the governance, motivated by the reputation of the members of the Board of Directors, and designed to meet the best compromise between agility and decentralization. - OPTIG is the DAO’s governance token and a non-transferable and burnable voting used to vote on DAO strategic decisions. Each usage token OPTIU is associated with an active user and each board token OPTIB gives access to an OPTIG. The supply is equal at the beginning to the supply of OPTIB to allow agile development of the DAO. Over time, as OPTIGs are distributed through usage, the weight of the board in the DAO’s strategic decisions becomes insignificant compared to one of the users, to reduce the operational risk at the start of the project by enabling the project to be scaled up in an agile but centralized way, to become fully decentralized in the long run. - OPTIM is the DAO’s economic token. 🔬It was a pleasure to present the first academic paper on Optimal DAO at DAO Workshop (DAWO24)! We showed that truly decentralised #DAOs (where governance is distributed solely by usage and reputation) are the best organisational structures types to solve systematically the Principal-Agent problem in all contracts within the economy.
