Quantum Tech is Not Neutral - It Shapes Our World, and We Shape It Right Back With great tech power, comes great responsibility. While investments in quantum technology are still limited, early industrial applications are already emerging. Just like with AI, we must proactively set ethical guidelines before the technology outpaces our ability to govern it. The time to act is now. This discussion is especially relevant as we have been celebrating the Opening Ceremony of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology at the UNESCO a pivotal moment to reflect on the ethical implications of quantum advancements. Right now, ethical considerations are often treated as optional. Many small Quantum companies and institutions must choose between rapid innovation or integrating ethical standards, often at the cost of slower development. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 - 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆? Some inspiration I took from #IYQ in Paris: 👁️🗨️ Privacy & Trust – How do we redefine privacy and build trust in quantum services? Ethical standards must support human rights while adapting to local cultures. 🌐 SDGs & Tensions – Advancing one SDG goal can hinder another. New technologies, like Quantum, have the potential to find better solutions in achieving the SDGs. 🟰 Diversity Matters – Women have contributed to quantum tech for over a century, yet remain absent in most historical records. Time to change that, by telling an equal story & creating a system that fosters equal opportunities for diverse talents to lead innovation. How do we drive Quantum from Knowledge Sharing to Enablement? #QuantumTechnology #EthicsInTech #Innovation #FutureTech #DiversityInSTEM QuantumBasel QAI Ventures uptownBasel

Exploring the Future of AI Training: The Q-TRAIN Initiative Training Large Language Models (LLMs) is resource-intensive, which results in high costs and significant energy consumption. This limits the accessibility of advanced AI technologies for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and particularly in Europe increases reliance on foreign GPU providers. The Q-TRAIN project, a collaboration between QuantumBasel and XiTrust – The eSignature Company, is reimagining this process by integrating quantum computing into AI training workflows. The project is based on a Eureka Network Eurostar grant. Key Objectives: ▶️ Develop energy-efficient and cost-effective AI training pipelines. ▶️ Enable smaller, specialized LLMs optimized for industry-specific tasks. ▶️ Reduce reliance on traditional GPU systems, fostering European technological sovereignty. Through quantum-enhanced techniques, this initiative targets applications in document-heavy industries like legal, finance, and healthcare, making AI more accessible and sustainable. Stay tuned for updates as we explore the intersection of quantum computing and AI to reshape the future of AI training. #QuantumComputing #AIInnovation #LLMs #Sustainability #FutureOfAI Robby Toole Sonja Andrist Janine Goldiger Claudia Fricker Rajiv Krishnakumar Dr. Julien Baglio Dr. Frederik Flöther Yelena Guryanova Damir Bogdan Nadine Kugler Sophie Peggs Jan Mikolon Maximilian Wurzer Matteo Krummenacher Hans-Jörg Fankhauser uptownBasel Stephan Kochauf
