The four-day workweek gained enormous traction in 2024 as more businesses all over the world adopted this change. The outcomes are striking: studies carried out in a number of nations, such as Brazil and Germany, showed a notable increase in productivity, a decrease in burnout, and a better work-life balance (4 Day Week - Global). Notably, participants experienced a 36% increase in revenue, alongside a 42% decrease in employee resignations, making the case that well-being and business performance go hand-in-hand(4 Day Week Global). As we look to 2025 with hope, there is anticipation that more businesses will adopt this model, expanding the definition of a sustainable and well-balanced workplace. Hope drives teams to aim high and achieve big goals. But, as Katina Sawyer and Judy Clair’s HBR research shows, hope can be tricky—helping at times but leading to frustration when things go wrong. At the organizational level, hope relies on three things: A shared vision for a better future. Belief in the right methods to reach that future. Staying motivated through tough times, with leaders keeping the team focused. But hope can backfire. When progress seems out of reach, frustration can spread, lowering motivation. Leaders need to keep hope realistic—celebrating wins and acknowledging challenges. This balance helps teams stay motivated and hopeful without getting discouraged when things don't go as planned.
