As part of WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s engagement at #GreenBiz25, yesterday Naama Avni Kadosh, Director, Partnership for Carbon Transparency, spoke during the session, “Accounting for Scope 3 Emissions: Product Carbon Footprints.” During this discussion, panelists shared how they are addressing the challenges of calculating product carbon footprints and how improved emissions data identifies and supports decarbonization opportunities. Naama spoke to attendees during the session about how product carbon footprint is the only way for companies to make strategic decarbonization decisions. She highlighted that in line with WBCSD’s Partnership for Carbon Transparency (PACT), multiple organizations are already exchanging product carbon footprint information – showing that product carbon footprint is not only feasible but does unlock decarbonization decisions. As Naama shared during the session, “This is the highest return on investment into transparency.” Trellis Group

WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s engagement at #GreenBiz25 continued yesterday as Giulia Carbone, Director, Nature for Climate, spoke during the session, “Deciphering Sustainability Standards – SBTi, ISO, VCMI, and More.” This session explored the latest developments on some of the largest voluntary corporate climate standards. Giulia spoke about how it is essential that carbon credits deliver real, measurable outcomes, and contribute to genuine emissions reductions and support the integrity of global climate efforts. She noted that a key part of our work is policy advocacy and ensuring that businesses have a collective voice in shaping standards and regulations. Through group efforts, we actively engage with the SBTi, submitting comments and recommendations that reflect our shared perspective. As Giulia said during the session: “Our priority should always be to first reduce emissions internally. But beyond that, we must also consider the global impact — how we can contribute to emissions reductions at a larger scale and support broader climate goals.” Trellis Group

On Monday night, WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development kicked off our opening reception at #GreenBiz25 with an incredible turnout of sustainability leaders all committed to driving action in an era of uncertainty. As we gathered, we couldn’t ignore the shifting landscape – new political realities are challenging the ESG and sustainability agenda, turning once-common business commitments into necessary debates about business performance, value creation and how these commitments are better understood on “Main Street.” But one thing is clear: businesses are staying the course.   At WBCSD, we’re focused on accelerating decarbonization, increasing corporate performance and accountability, driving radical collaboration through value chains, and enabling capacity building and education inside as companies integrate sustainability further into their operations. That’s why we’ve been working with members to navigate reputational risks and refine the language we use to communicate our commitments. With insights from maslansky + partners, research shows that Americans, regardless of party affiliation, expect companies to lead on climate action. The issue is how we communicate these issues to them.     During our panel, Kelsi Doran, Senior Director, Sustainability and Purpose Strategy, at Cisco and Will Howard, Head, Insights and Advisory Services, at the Potential Energy Coalition, shared strategic approaches to shaping sustainability communications in this challenging environment, including reframing ESG and climate action in terms of economic growth, resilience, and competitiveness, and using language that focuses on “materiality,” not “morality.” Another key point was to strengthen corporate messaging to reinforce long-term commitments directly tied to business performance, because sustainability is becoming a business imperative, as noted by our Chief Member Officer Stephanie de Heer.    This sentiment resonated throughout the night, particularly in a conversation with Nicole Monge from APCO, who stressed the importance of strategic messaging in a politically charged environment, because the right language can mean the difference between progress and backlash. The challenge for companies isn’t whether to continue sustainability efforts – it’s how to communicate them effectively.    As the evening concluded, it became evident that this reception, and the broader conference, is more than just a gathering. It’s a call to action. We must leave here with a renewed commitment to push ahead, forge new partnerships, and shape the future despite these headwinds.    #Sustainability #ReframingTheNarrative #BusinessStrategy   Trellis Group

Corporate sustainability is no longer just something companies do — it’s becoming central to business performance and impact. As this shift accelerates, we must rethink how we substantiate sustainability within our value chains and in the public eye. I enjoyed moderating a roundtable discussion today at #GreenBiz25 during the "What Do We Say Now?" session. Attendees engaged in meaningful conversations centered around two questions: 1) How can organizations effectively message sustainability across the political spectrum? 2) Do best practices exist to help bridge the divide rather than feed into the echo chamber? Collaboration with the community isn’t optional — it’s essential to getting it right. Today's conversations were an important step in learning how we can understand our audiences more deeply and recognize why this matters to them. #Sustainability #BusinessPerformance Trellis Group WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development Stephanie de Heer

  • 🏭Decarbonizing industrial heat - which accounts for 18% of annual global GHG emissions - is critical to meeting net zero targets. As our latest insight piece explains, this will require targeted policy support and value chain collaboration amongst businesses. For one, targeted policy incentives are needed to spur uptake of emerging technologies which have the potential to scale industrial process heat decarbonization at speed. Meanwhile, businesses across the value chain need to work with each other  to enhance the commercial viability of renewable heat solutions. The article also shows how policymakers can learn from examples of policy incentives across the globe - highlighting examples from countries including the US, Germany, and the Netherlands. To learn about how targeted policy support and value chain collaboration amongst businesses can drive meaningful change and ensure industrial process heat is no longer the missing piece of the decarbonization puzzle, read the full insight piece 👉https://lnkd.in/eEUj9sYz Thanks go to WBCSD’s Surbhi Singhvi and Sem Oxenaar from Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP). #Decarbonization #IndustrialHeat
