Around 700 delegates from 66 countries are gathered at this critical event, that seeks to build synergies and galvanize the global NCD advocacy community, in advance of this year's pivotal UN High Level Meeting on NCDs. WSO is committed to collaborating with our NCD civil society and political stakeholders to secure commitment on our shared challenges in relation to political engagement, resourcing and investment, equity and inclusion of people with lived experience of NCDs. Within this context, we are also working to drive visibility and bold action on the specific challenges and opportunities around stroke. In the opening session, Yvan Butera the Minister of State Health for Rwanda highlighted the progress that was being made on the national priority of prevention. There the government has moved to implement taxation on tobacco, alcohol and instituted car-free Sundays to improve air quality and increase physical activity. WHO Executive Board Adopts Crucial Resolution on Medical Imaging We are delighted to share that the proposed resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity was adopted by the WHO Executive Board during its session on February 10 and will now proceed to the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78) in Geneva from May 19–27, 2025. The resolution was led by Cameroon, co-sponsored by Armenia, Brazil and Burkina Faso and presented for discussion in the Executive Board. By the end of the session, it had garnered strong consensus support from multiple Member States, including China and Thailand. If adopted in May, this resolution will play a critical role in advancing our collective efforts to combat the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), by promoting greater access to advanced medical imaging and nuclear medicine. WSO was a co-signatory to the Constituency Statement and ensured specific language on the critical importance of medical imaging to the treatment of stroke was highlighted. The Constituency Statement was instrumental in raising the Executive Board’s awareness about the challenges LMICs face in addressing NCDs and the essential role of modern imaging technologies in global health. We deeply appreciate your collaboration and advocacy in this important initiative.
