As part of the Organization’s Master Plan 2040, Building 140 will redefine the Meyrin campus, combining cutting-edge research facilities with a commitment to environmental responsibility. With a compact and highly efficient design, the 15,600 m² building will optimise energy performance through thoughtful architecture and material choices. The modular façade system will enhance natural light management and improve insulation, reducing energy demands while ensuring long-term adaptability. These features create a space that supports both scientific discovery and environmental responsibility. Beyond its architectural significance, Building 140 will be a central hub for research, learning, and collaboration. It will house state-of-the-art laboratories, offices, and workshops for the Experimental Physics Department, as well as the future CERN Learning Centre, a dedicated space for training and knowledge exchange. CERN is pleased to announce the conclusion of three major framework contracts with 2M KABLO A.S. 🇹🇷, Prysmian 🇩🇪 and TECNIKABEL S.p.A. 🇮🇹 for the supply of about 3,500 kilometres of power and signal cables. The procurement process began in 2022 with a Market Survey, during which 79 companies from CERN’s Member States were invited to express their interest. The three contracts will span five years for a cumulative amount of approximately 20 MCHF. The cables delivered will be critical to the installation of equipment in radiation-monitored environment, including superconducting magnets, crab cavities, superconducting links, vacuum and cryogenic systems, and remote alignment components. They will be installed during Long Shutdown 3 (LS3) in underground facilities, either in the tunnel or the newly constructed HL-LHC technical galleries. About these contracts, Chris Hartley, Department Head of Industry, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer at CERN commented: CERN’s infrastructure is over a huge area and relies on interconnectivity. These contracts secure our supply of high technology cables for the coming years and show a nice mix of standardisation and innovation.   Mr. Mehmet Dereli, General Manager of 2Mkablo said: “Working with CERN over the last few years allowed us to focus more closely not only on improving our R&D, production and quality, but also on understanding the importance of CERN projects for the whole world. We have never been so close to understanding the true nature of the Universe.”   Scott Brown, Vice President - R&D, Product Management & Marketing, Prysmian stated:  “Our long-term partnership with CERN has been an incredibly rewarding experience, with our ongoing technical collaboration and joint contributions in advancing technology.
