57 participants, 33 countries, 3 languages: this is the power of our #financialeducation training of trainers programme with the ITCILO ! For a month, from October 21 to November 22, 2024, the participants enrolled in our training of trainers have worked hard with the support of senior trainers Gustavo Prepelitchi, Leila JILANI and Sabrina Arzani to become experts in our financial education training package and in the teaching methodologies that we use. With this step successfully concluded, they are now encouraged to deliver three training courses in their own countries, during which they will receive personalized feedback and coaching from the senior trainers, in order to receive the final certification as ILO national trainers in financial education. With this certificate in hands, they will be able to deliver the ILO training independently and autonomously, helping us in our mission to build financial capability all over the globe. Congratulations to all the trainees and good luck concluding the final step! w/ Margarita Lalayan | Yousra Hamed | Inès Bentchikou

What is the role of financial education in a context of crisis? In Lebanon, the International Labour Organization’s ENABLE programme, funded by the European Union, is using #financialeducation as a way to promote the financial inclusion of entrepreneurs, vulnerable individuals and displaced people in Damour, Tripoli, Akkar and Bourj Hammoud. More than 50% of the trainees were forced displaced persons. This initiative, part of the International Labour Organization's response to the crisis in Lebanon, aims to equip beneficiaries with the essential financial literacy and management skills they need to improve their livelihoods and become more resilient. From November 13 to 15, our team members Patricia Richter, Inès Bentchikou, Yousra Hamed, Craig Churchill, and Pranav Prashad had the pleasure to attend the European Microfinance Week 2024 organized by the e-MFP. Craig Churchill was a speaker in the plenary “Advancing financial inclusion for refugees and FDP” and explored pathways to overcome systemic barriers that prevent FDPs from accessing formal financial services. Yousra Hamed moderated two parts of the session “Inclusive finance for forcibly displaced people: A deep dive”. She started by highlighting key insights on Uganda’s pioneering approach to refugee financial inclusion. By drawing on her expertise, she led a discussion on Uganda’s ground-breaking strides. On ‘’the ecosystem approach’’ segment, she bridged expert knowledge with participatory dialogue making this session an inspiring and impactful experience for all attendees. Pranav Prashad participated in the session “Protecting migrant workers: Insurance solutions for remittance stability”, during which he discussed how distributing insurance through remittance service providers has the potential to unlock greater formal remittance flows and improve resilience of both remittance senders and receivers. Interested in these topics, but could not attend the #EMW2024? Don't worry, we have got you covered! Our recently published article summarizes all our main takeaways from this important event.
