It's #FunFactFriday! 💡 Glutamine: a silent hero in our cells? 💥 Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in our cells and is involved in a variety of physiological functions. While it is a non-essential amino acid, it plays a key role in protein biosynthesis and also serves as a carbon source for energy production through the citric acid cycle. But did you know that it is also critical for our cells' source code? 🧬 In proliferating cells, glutamine serves as an enzyme substrate and nitrogen donor in the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides, the building blocks of our DNA. #metabolism #glutamine #metaboliteassay #bioluminescence #promegatechnologies
