Join the African Water Facility and African Development Bank Group at the market days of the Africa Investment Forum. The top platform for connecting investors in Africa, the forum highlights the power of partnerships in bringing direct investment into important sectors on the continent, to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Under the theme "Leveraging Innovative Partnerships for Scale," the Bank Group and the African Water Facility will join over one thousand business leaders and small businesses to talk about why Africa is the best place to invest. With 39% of the world’s population under 20 and a market of 2.5 billion consumers expected by 2050, Africa is seen as a top investment opportunity now and in the future. In particular, the Bank Group’s current portfolio of over $5.4 billion dollars deployed through 108 operations in the water sector, and the African Water Facility’s current portfolio of 22 active projects which are expected to result in 2.8 billion euros in downstream investment, demonstrate the demand and potential for investment in the water sector and in cross-cutting, sustainable development on the continent. The Africa Investment Forum helps turn projects into financially viable ones, raise capital, and speed up deal-making. Since it started in 2018, the Forum has assisted in securing almost $180 billion in investment interest, including $25 billion in 2023. Did you know that 42 out of 48 sub-Saharan African countries share transboundary water basins, including rivers, lakes, and aquifers? Transboundary cooperation is essential for water security, conflict prevention, and regional economic growth. At the 10th Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe's (UNECE) Water Convention, the African Development Bank Group and the African Water Facility are actively participating in sessions on financing and transboundary water development and a matchmaking event which connects new members of the convention, mainly African countries, with financing institutions. At the session on "Advancing Transboundary Water Cooperation through Innovative Financing," Mtchera Johannes Chirwa highlighted the Bank Group’s and Facility’s financing solutions for African basin organizations and multinational projects. He emphasized the need for strong frameworks within these organizations and political backing from the involved countries. In another session, "Building Climate Resilience through Ecosystem and Biodiversity Preservation in Transboundary Settings," he discussed how the Bank supports climate resilience and transboundary water cooperation in Africa, emphasising that transboundary water management is a key driver of regional economic integration, as outlined in the Bank’s water policy. #africanwaterfacility
