From Sierra Leone to Rwanda, Cameroun, Tunisia, Malawi and Tanzania, in this #documentary, find out how the African Water Facility supports Regional Member Countries to achieve their water and sanitation goals in line with national priorities, regional and international agendas and the Facility's strategic pillars: https://lnkd.in/ejWs3nmE Earlier this year, the African Water Facility celebrated nearly two decades of #MakingADifference in Africa. Did you know that: 👉 The first grant processed by the Facility was 165,000 euros for the creation of the Volta Basin Authority, which leads strategic planning and promotes water-related investments in six member countries in West Africa. 👉 Since 2004, projects prepared by the African Water Facility have mobilised 2.2 billion euros in downstream investment. 👉 In 2024, so far the Facility has successfully mobilised 19.5 million euros from Spain, Nordic Development Fund and Austria. 👉 The Facility's current portfolio of 22 active projects is valued at 34 million euros and expected to result in 2.8 billion euros in downstream investment. 👉 23 million people will benefit from the Facility’s ongoing work across the continent. The African Water Facility is the only African project preparation and promotion Facility solely focused on addressing water and sanitation issues in Africa. It helps African countries achieve the objectives and targets set by the water-related Sustainable Development Goals and African Water Vision 2025 through funding the preparation of innovative, climate responsive water and sanitation projects across the continent. #africanwaterfacility #water #sanitation

🌾 At #CIMMYT, we're leading innovative research on #ConservationAgriculture (CA) systems in Southern Africa. Through strategic partnerships, we've successfully expanded CA practices, impacting over 65,000 farmers in Malawi and 50,000 in Zambia. Our findings reveal CA systems yield 30-60% more than conventional methods, save 25-45 days of labor per hectare, and increase net benefits by 20-100%. Additionally, these systems are better adapted to climate variability, enhancing moisture conservation and sustainability 🌍🌱 #SustainableFarming #ClimateAdaptation #AgricultureInnovation #FarmersFirst #SustainableDevelopment USAID CGIAR

[#WorldWaterDay] 100,000 people living in rural areas in Cambodia will now have access to safe drinking #water. How ? Thanks to a new generation of water kiosks. 💧 A decentralised solution for access to high quality drinking water 🚰 that is carbon-neutral, modular and fully digitalized to ease remote monitoring : this is the challenge that 1001fontaines, Teuksaat1001 NGO, TERGYS SAS, GREENCITYZEN, Veolia and the Fondation Veolia have decided to take up together to contribute to SDG6. This project could not have been possible without the support of the French government and the Ministry of Rural Development in Cambodia. As the #watercrisis is increasingly becoming prevalent in Africa with more people living without access to #cleanwater and #sanitation, there is need for stakeholders in the water sector to put their heads together to address this crisis. Africa risks to miss the #UNGlobal target of SDG 6 by 2030 if stakeholders do not collaborate to fast track these efforts. Financing of water related activities still suffers from a huge shortfall despite private sector involvement to complement governments' efforts. In two weeks' time, the Lagos International Water Conference (LIWAC) kicks off at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. Join the KIFFWA - Kenya Innovative Finance Facility for Water CEO Erik Labee who will be a keynote speaker at the conference. #waterfinancing #acceleratingsdg6 #waterforall #waterhasnoboundaries Funke Adepoju

The African Water Facility has approved a grant of about €2 million to Burundi for the “Development of Water Resources and the Ruvyironza Multi-Purpose Dam (PRODERER)” project to enhance water and food security, and boost access to electricity. Burundi is grappling with food and energy insecurity, and the nation’s energy security is low, with a widespread lack of access to electricity and high production costs. Basic water, sanitation and hygiene services also remain inadequate. Funding from the African Water Facility will support several feasibility studies for hydraulic, hydro-agricultural, and hydroelectric infrastructure, including the pivotal Ruvyironza multipurpose dam in Gitega province, to improve the socioeconomic resilience of populations by increasing water, food, and energy access. A projected total of 681,546 people, 50% of whom are women, will benefit. “The preparation of bankable feasibility studies will lay the groundwork for the development of much-needed multipurpose water storage and supply infrastructure in Burundi. This will help to strengthen water security in the region, leading to improved livelihoods, health outcomes, and adaptation and resilience to climate change,” said Mtchera Johannes Chirwa, Coordinator of the African Water Facility. 🥫In Adamawa State, Nigeria, migration and water challenges intersect, straining resources and communities. With the backing of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and World Food Programme, a survey of 400 households across 20 communities highlights the significant impact of migration, particularly from Cameroon, on water access and quality. Conflicts, climate change, and inadequate infrastructure exacerbate these issues, affecting livelihoods and health. Investment in water infrastructure, conflict resolution, and anticipatory actions are crucial for sustainable water management and community resilience. 📸: Joe Bala/IWMI Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dUchjVQs #Sustainability

Dr. Osward M Chanda Chanda recent table talk with other organizations courtesy of UNIDO ITPO Germany on promoting water and wastewater management was truly enlightening. He shared a unique perspective that brings together the development bank's priorities with his experience in engaging with both public and private sectors. I was glad to be part of the meeting and listening to the wealth of information offered however it is clear that promoting private involvement in providing solutions to the public sector in Africa still faces significant challenges. There is still a gap in local banks offering incentives at a scale that promotes regional development, as well as a lack of shared information on practical regulatory frameworks. These are just some of the major hurdles that need to be addressed and thanks Belete A. Matebe from bringing that up in the discussion. We must continue to have conversations like these to find solutions that benefit all parties involved. Let's work together to overcome these challenges and promote #sustainable #water and #wastewater management in Africa.

The focus of the talks was on identifying areas of cooperation in the water and waste sector in Africa. It's great to see these important conversations happening and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on the continent. #WiloGroup #WiloMSAfrica #watersector #wastesector #Africa #UNIDO #IFATworldwide
