📢 **New report: "Action at the Source: Waste Separation as a Strategic Solution to Methane Reduction and The Plastic Crisis" ** 🌎 Today, as global leaders gather in Busan for the UNEP Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution Fifth Session (INC-5), our report highlights a key solution: waste separation to reduce methane emissions and tackle the climate and plastic crises. 🌱 Why is this important? Methane, a gas with more than 80 times the short-term warming potential of CO2, is largely produced by the decomposition of organic waste in landfills. Reducing these emissions is critical to slowing global warming and achieving the Paris Agreement targets. ♻️ What can we do? Separate waste into organic and inorganic streams. Promote composting and sustainable waste management practices. Support the essential role of waste pickers, who handle up to 60% of recycled plastic waste worldwide. 🌍 Global and Local Impact Every year, 400 million tons of plastic are produced, but only 9% is recycled. Cities like La Pintana (Chile), Cajicá (Colombia), and San Francisco (USA) are already leading with successful models that we should replicate. 📖 Learn more about tackling the climate crisis and plastic pollution through waste management. Download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dXZaExmu We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the organizations and individuals who have collaborated with Ambition Loop in the creation of this report. We believe in the power of bold collective goals, and in the need for generosity among partners to foster radical collaboration - there is more than enough work for all of us! We work on a small number of broad systemic topics such as plastics, food systems, climate finance and industrial transformation. Central to our vision is the steadfast commitment to the role of government, the importance of multilateral collaboration and the need to mobilise all actors to drive systems change, particularly the private sector, civil society, and sub-national governments. Ambition Loop is driven by a profound sense of responsibility towards the planet and its inhabitants. Our mission is to lead and inspire coordinated, transformative action on a small number of major challenges across climate change, biodiversity, plastics pollution, food systems, and water. We are dedicated to promoting a sustainable and resilient future for all. We understand that no one is in charge of systems transformation but we believe that diverse groups of change agents converging on shared bold goals and pathways have the power to innovate and inspire each other to achieve remarkable results.

Join Us for an Exclusive Webinar Happening Tomorrow! "To Riyadh and Beyond: Taking action now to restore 1.5 billion ha of land” 📅 Date: Wednesday, November 27th ⏰ Time: 8:00 AM Eastern Standard Time / 1 PM GMT / 4 PM Arabia Standard Time Healthy land is vital to life on Earth, supporting ecosystems, livelihoods, and global food security. Yet, land degradation is accelerating at an alarming pace, with millions of hectares lost each year. By 2050, up to 90% of the planet’s land could be degraded, putting freshwater supplies, biodiversity, and livelihoods at severe risk. Ahead of the historic UNCCD COP16Riyadh, the first to take place in the MENA region during the Convention’s 30th year, we’re inviting you to join a critical conversation about the Riyadh Action Agenda. This landmark initiative, to be launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and supported by Ambition Loop, seeks to drive coordinated, inclusive action to conserve and restore 1.5 billion hectares of land by 2030. Together with key stakeholders—from Indigenous Peoples to financial institutions and NGOs —we’ll explore how non-state actors can collaborate to combat land degradation, including with benefits to address biodiversity loss and climate change, and thus deliver transformative solutions for our planet. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the movement! 👉 Register now to hold your spot. https://lnkd.in/dbxXJ6wg Let’s work together to protect the land we all depend on! 🌍 #LandRestoration #RiyadhCOP16 #SustainableLandManagement #Biodiversity #ClimateAction #UNCCD #EcosystemRestoration #EnvironmentalConservation #MENARegion Gonzalo Muñoz Abogabir CMG Nigel Topping, CMG Jennifer Lenhart, PhD Wael Bushah Dr Susan Chomba
