REFIRE TO POWER COACHES FOR MAJOR EUROPEAN OEM REFIRE has signed an MoU with a leading European OEM to initially supply a number of 180-220kW PRISMA fuel cell systems for integration in long-distance #coaches, with testing starting this quarter. The 220kW variant is being prepped for European certification. Proven for long range, tough duty cycles: REFIRE’s PRISMA fuel cell system is tailored for the demands of long-range routes, offering top fuel efficiency. The 180kW system recently powered two 49-tonne trucks over a 1500km journey, pausing only to refuel, returning an average hydrogen consumption of just 7.4kg/100km. Coaches are next to benefit from these high-power systems, especially for cabin comfort and #HVAC (heating, ventilation, AC) needs, which can use up to 50% of a battery’s power, affecting range. Hydrogen's high energy density can address these power demands, with REFIRE systems also operating well in extreme climates (-30C to 50C) and at high elevations (up to 2,500 metres). Immediate availability and seamless upgrades: REFIRE’s single-enclosure 180kW PRISMA system is available now, allowing OEMs to reduce development cycles by integrating a proven system and later upgrading to the 220kW version seamlessly. Prisma’s form factor is designed to easily drop into the cavity of legacy #diesel powertrains. Preparing for ultra-low emissions Looming EU regulations require 90% emissions reductions from heavy-duty vehicles by 2040 with interim mandates of 43% by 2030 and 64% by 2035. REFIRE’s hydrogen-electric #technology helps OEMs meet these targets ahead of schedule, avoiding diesel bans and penalties. For EU emission mandates, see: https://lnkd.in/eCihc2xY Clean air imperative: Zero emission travel is key in the decarbonization of European mass transit. REFIRE BALLOONISTS - 2025 TRANSATLANTIC BALLOON PASSES TEST MÖNCHENGLADBACH, GERMANY - The story continues as #UK Balloonists Deborah Day and Mike Scholes, prepare for a 2025 #transatlantic crossing attempt in their gas balloon, #aircraft number G-ZOZO. In the headline image, the balloon on the left is hydrogen-filled G-GASI (aircraft number) and will compete in its second Gordon Bennett Coupe Aéronautique in September 2024. Meanwhile, its much larger sibling on the right, G-ZOZO, which can be filled with #helium or #hydrogen, is preparing for its second transatlantic crossing attempt in 2025. In July 2023, after technical issues, G-ZOZO was forced to land in a remote coastal area of eastern #Canada after flying for hundreds of miles before reaching the #Atlantic Ocean. To ensure that the balloon did not sustain any damage, it has been rigorously tested, and last week passed a 14-hour inflation test at the Mönchengladbach airfield. Meanwhile, Deborah Day and Ann Rich (Guinness record holder: https://lnkd.in/gbB5kvvg) continue to train with G-GASI for September's de facto world endurance championship as an all-female team in the 67th Gordon Bennett balloon race hosted by the city of #Münster in #Germany. REFIRE 180kW PRISMA FUEL CELL IS HEAVY-DUTY SWEET SPOT Finding the power-rating sweet spot for #hydrogen fuel cells is vital to building mass adoption of FCEVs (fuel cell electric vehicles), and this has been a key driver in our third-generation system design. Hundreds of units of REFIRE’s PRISMA XVIII have shipped since production began in late 2023. This #nextgeneration heavy-duty fuel cell system incorporates many innovations that have resulted in lower lower CapEx and OpEx, and even a record-breaking #endurance route. Power for heavy industries, such as #longhaul #logistics, is still largely delivered as molecules, not electrons. Hydrogen offers the best of both worlds: #decentralised, molecular delivery, and clean power as electrons. We asked the question: what fuel cell power rating would cater to 80% of heavy-duty #mobility? The answer, we believe, lies around 180kW, and is what led to the development of our PRISMA XVIII fuel cell system. Today, in partnership with leading OEMs such as FAW and Yutong Trucks, PRISMA XVIII is powering several #fleets of 49-tonne trucks. These commercial vehicles offer a concrete proof point that 180kW is ample power to #decarbonise the heaviest, #longhaul diesel routes. Electrical power is delivered to motors through a hybrid of the fuel cell and compact batteries. This results in a low gross vehicle weight, fast #refueling, and enables optimal #performance across a wide range of terrains and #environmental conditions over many hundreds of kilometres. In April this year, two 49-tonne Yutong trucks undertook a non-stop 1500km inter-provincial #challenge, delivering goods from Beijing to Shanghai, pausing only to refuel. Hydrogen consumption averaged just 7.4kg per 100km. PRISMA XVIII systems are powered by REFIRE’s SIRIUS graphite stack which offers durability and reliability over a #design lifetime of 30,000 hours. The system can operate in #extreme climates, at elevations up to 5,500 metres, and achieves operating temperature highs of 95C thanks to 25% improvements in heat rejection. Successful deployment of the 49-tonne fleets supports the logic and commercial viability of heavy-duty logistics powered by the 180kW PRISMA XVIII. To act on #carbonreduction promises, it is vital to break the supply and demand chicken and egg scenario that has industry in a catch-22, waiting for the perfect time and price-point to leverage #cleanhydrogen technologies. But without an entry point, there will be no #global scale up and no cost-down. The time to act is now!
