On January 14, the SwissCham China (Shanghai) FinTax Committee organized an engaging event that focused on the shifting dynamics of global strategies within China. The gathering brought together professionals and business leaders for insightful discussions on innovative approaches to tackling the intricacies of the Chinese market. To kick off the event, Nini Qi, Deputy Executive Director of SwissCham Shanghai, highlighted the importance of adapting global strategies to effectively navigate China’s rapidly changing investment environment and economic trends. Following Nini's remarks, Forest Zhang, Director of Supply Chain & Operations at EY, presented on fostering growth through antifragility in supply chains. He outlined the shift towards agile, networked ecosystems and introduced EY’s Supply Chain Reinvention framework, designed to help companies adapt their supply chains for today’s digital demands with resilient, sustainable solutions. Forest emphasized three key capabilities for handling uncertainty: Agility, Responsiveness, and Knowledge of uncertainty's impact, which enable organizations to learn and improve from disruptions. He concluded with two case studies demonstrating how companies can apply antifragile principles to achieve better visibility, cost savings, and improved service metrics. Afterwards, Wenjia Zhu, Tax Partner of Global Tax Compliance & Reporting at Ernst & Young, delved into the topic of navigating China's investment landscape. She began by providing an overview of the country's macro economy, highlighting a slower-than-expected economic recovery but also pointing out positive long-term fundamentals that indicate potential for future growth. Wenjia then shared market observations that revealed how MNCs are responding to this environment with cautious optimism, focusing on nurturing their core businesses while carefully managing risks. To further illustrate these strategies, she presented two case studies that exemplified how foreign investors are restructuring their holdings in China. This was followed by Kai Huang, Managing Director & Deputy General Manager, Head of FICC Sales South China at Bank of America, who provided an overview of China's macro economy and treasury trends for multinationals. Kai highlighted key economic indicators and FICC market trends, along with regulatory updates impacting liquidity management and risk mitigation. The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session moderated by Jonas Eberle, Director of Finance & Treasury at Würth Group (China) and Board Member of SwissCham Shanghai, which provided participants with an interactive platform to delve deeper into the discussed topics and engage in insightful exchanges on navigating China’s macro economy and treasury trends.
