Big news from Avion Express Brasil! The company has successfully obtained its AOC from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) — making it the first dedicated ACMI operator in Brazil! ✨ With this certificate in place, Avion Express Brasil is ready to start commercial operations in Q1 2025, deploying up to 10 Airbus A320 family aircraft by the end of the year. Is it ever too cold or too hot to fly? 🥶 We may think that aircraft can endure any weather conditions, but it’s a little more complicated than that. Let’s discuss how different temperatures may affect flying. First, there are minimum temperature limits for essential components like fuel, oil, and hydraulic fluid. If the aircraft is being kept in a hangar prior to flight, it can often operate in extremely cold conditions. Planes routinely fly at altitudes where temperatures drop even below -56°C, and as long as the fluids are kept warm, operations are usually unaffected. Many aircraft come with specific instructions for starting in cold weather, for example, recommending the use of an external engine preheater and an external power source to reduce wear on the electrical system. Very hot conditions, on the other hand, tend to cause performance issues rather than mechanical ones. Warm air is less dense, which means aircraft generate less lift compared to cooler air. When temperatures rise above 40°C, limitations on acceleration and climb performance become significant factors. It’s also always important to consider not just the current temperature but how it will change along the flight path. 2024 was a landmark year for Avia Solutions Group and global air cargo airline, Magma Aviation. Underpinned by strategic expansion and operational innovation, the airline established new offices in Dubai and Dublin, as well as securing a multi-year partnership with World Flight Services (WFS) for freighter handling at Liege Airport (LGG). Strengthening their global reach and service offering, Magma are also poised for further fleet expansion and market adaptation. 📈 Right now, medium-size freighters are being considered to support B747 international flights, enhancing the airline’s aircraft diversity by Q3/Q4 of this year. How did it all begin? “I was looking for a new professional challenge when a good friend of mine at SmartLynx suggested I give aviation a shot”, Ricards shared. As much as he loved flying though, being away from family for a long time wasn’t easy. “Luckily, SmartLynx had office opportunities, so I took the chance to continue my aviation career on the ground,” he says. Ricards transitioned from Crew Operations to Safety and now he’s heading up Safety Management System team. His time as a cabin crew still plays a big role in his work. “I can always reflect on the crew perspective and operational experience when making decisions,” he said. Ricards’ favourite part of cabin crew life was the opportunity to travel. 🌍 “Breakfast in Paris and dinner in Barcelona – what’s not to love? And of course, people.
