Safety and vigilance are of paramount importance at SMT, not just for our own crew and vessel but also for those around us. SMT’s “Lake Pearl” was involved in a search and rescue operation when they spotted 3 survivors floating on the debris of a sunken boat some 40nm off the coast of Jamaica. The Office Emergency Response was initiated and Rescue Coordination Center notified. Lake Pearl managed to pick up 2 survivors from the water. The 2 survivors, who had spent 54 hours in the water, were brought to safety, provided with first aid and were delivered ashore to the Jamaican Coast Guard boat. Despite courageous efforts the 3rd person could not be rescued. The ship was engaged in SAR operations searching for the 3rd person, who sadly was finally declared as lost at sea. Target achieved! During October and November, SMT colleagues around the world have been exercising, running, swimming, walking, going to the gym as part of our Challenge to raise money for Mercy Ships. SMT staff recorded their activities on the newU App, earning points which were then converted into money by SMT. We are delighted to report that Euro 50,000 has been raised for this worthwhile cause. Mercy Ships is a charity deploying hospital ships in some of the poorest parts of the world, delivering free healthcare to people in need. Mercy Ships intend to use the donation for their dental care project on board the Global Mercy in Sierra Leone.    Thank you to all our SMT colleagues who took part in this sporting challenge. As every year, SMT Shipping’s Polish office is delighted to be one of the sponsors of the visit of Santa Claus to children’s hospitals. We have arranged 170 plush toys to fill Santa’s bag. SMT became a member of ISWAN earlier this year. It is an organisation dedicated to supporting seafarers and their families around the world. In December they held an online member’s meeting attended by Anna Bury, Grzegorz Kwiatkowski and Neil Gibbons from SMT. ISWAN updated members on their seafarer multilingual helpline and their family outreach programme and spoke about their campaign of allyship and the role male seafarers can play in making life at sea safer for everybody.   #SMTShipping #maritime #ISWAN

OPERATOR   The Operations department is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the ships, ensuring that each voyage of every vessel is performed safely and efficiently and that all operations are carried out in an expedient, professional and commercially justified manner in compliance with the Company’s policy, charterers’ requirements and international regulations.   Duties include:   - Daily updating of position list & data systems - Submitting/freezing budgets - Writing the CP (if no broker involved) - Keeping close contact and coordinating with Charterers and all third parties involved with the ships - Check bunker orders & invoices before payment processing - Prepare and sending the freight invoice to Charterers - Prepare and sending the TC hires to Charterers - Prepare and sending the laytime calculations & Final SOA to Charterers - Prepare and send Final Hire Statements to Charterers - Follow up with Charterers on any disputes/outstanding payments - Compare budget vs actual voyage result  - Ensure all docs/necessary info are saved in the Cloud voyage files - Prepare and send requested reports - Enter AMS entries for all vessels discharging in the United States Please contact Maria with your cv: m.thierbach@smtshipping.com
