Safety and vigilance are of paramount importance at SMT, not just for our own crew and vessel but also for those around us. SMT’s “Lake Pearl” was involved in a search and rescue operation when they spotted 3 survivors floating on the debris of a sunken boat some 40nm off the coast of Jamaica. The Office Emergency Response was initiated and Rescue Coordination Center notified. Lake Pearl managed to pick up 2 survivors from the water. The 2 survivors, who had spent 54 hours in the water, were brought to safety, provided with first aid and were delivered ashore to the Jamaican Coast Guard boat. Despite courageous efforts the 3rd person could not be rescued. The ship was engaged in SAR operations searching for the 3rd person, who sadly was finally declared as lost at sea. Our thoughts go out to the family of the missing seafarer. #SMTShipping #maritime #LakePearl #SOLAS

⛑️Clara Barton's Inspiration and its Connection to Industrial Safety⛑️ Clara Barton, a key figure in the history of the Red Cross, founded the American Red Cross in 1881, inspired by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). During the American Civil War, Barton dedicated herself to caring for wounded soldiers, establishing a legacy of compassion and efficiency in emergency response. 🔴The connection between the Red Cross and industrial safety is clear: both focus on protection and assistance during emergencies and disasters. In industrial safety, we apply these principles in preparing and responding to emergencies in the workplace, including first aid, evacuations, and crisis management.🔴 The Red Cross inspires us to implement safety practices that prevent accidents and mitigate damage, ensuring the well-being and protection of people. In our company, we strive to follow this model, ensuring a safe and prepared work environment for any eventuality. #IndustrialSafety #RedCross #Emergencies #WorkplaceProtection #SafetyFirst #IndustrialSafety #WorkplaceSafety #Contractor #ContractorSafety #ArizonaContractors #TritecSafety #SafetyAlways #AutomativeIndustry

Tragic. The Marine Board will be an interesting. It also shows how significant the impacts of port closure can be.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector NCR, multiple first responders, and all those affected by the tragic incident at the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. According to reports, a 948-foot Singapore-flagged containership collided with the bridge causing it to collapse, with persons reported to be in the water. The Coast Guard is currently coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies for search and rescue efforts. Response boat crews and a helicopter crew are actively on the scene, with investigators and pollution responders en-route. Mariners are urged to avoid the area, with a 2000-yard safety zone issued for the surrounding waters. Our hearts go out to those involved in this incident. Please see the Coast Guard's press release for more information on the incident. The present crisis in the Red Sea means diverted vessels are sailing into known piracy areas. A total of 33 incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships were recorded around the world in the first three months of 2024 with a worrying return of the Somali pirate gangs. But seafarers know that in a crisis - be that piracy, shipwreck or even missile attack - there is someone they can call or text, who will be there for them 24/7. Sailors' Society Crisis Response Network is a free global service providing care and support to seafarers, their families and shipping companies following critical incidents. With ongoing support from our trained responders for as long as those traumatised need us. We can be there for seafarers in need whenever and wherever they need us thanks to funding from TK Foundation The Seafarers’ Charity UK P&I Club Find out more about Sailors Society CRN and make sure your crew has our numbers go to: sailors-society.org/crn #maritimeindustry #piracy #crisisresponse https://lnkd.in/eeaGgNZm

Mutual-aid is important, not only from the street level response to incidents, but also from a dispatching perspective. In the modern emergency communications environment, dispatchers may be called upon to provide mutual-aid, either through on-scene tactical dispatching, or through regional/interstate response (IL-TERT). This presents unique considerations when selecting training for dispatchers.
At ACDC, our dispatchers not only provide emergency dispatching services to our member agencies, they also provide emergency dispatching assistance during mutual aid call-outs. We have dispatchers who are active members of both the Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigations Team (MERIT) and the Illinois Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (IL-TERT).
