Had an amazing few days at the Sustainable Data Centers Summit USA 2025 in Dallas last week! It was great to reconnect with old friends, industry peers, and so many like-minded people from the industry—all working toward making data centers more sustainable. The conversations around #AI-driven efficiency, #decarbonization, next-gen cooling, and evolving regulations were incredibly insightful. It’s clear that as AI accelerates demand, we need to be just as fast in scaling net-zero strategies, reducing embodied carbon, and integrating renewables into our projects. Last week I attended the Future Bridge Events' Sustainable Data Centers Summit in Dallas, TX, where I had the opportunity to connect/reconnect with many sustainable leaders in the industry. Driving action and meaningful change through sustainability metrics and collaboration was top of mind. There were many standout sessions, including the panel on "Understanding and Addressing Material Scope 3 Impacts." It was great to see these panelists dive deep into the complexities of supply chain emissions and discuss innovative strategies to pave the way for more sustainable data centers. As the demand for digital infrastructure continues to grow, it becomes clear that there are many shared sustainability challenges and that the power of collaboration will be a key component in accelerating sustainability progress. Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the ♻️ Sustainable Data Center Summit hosted by Future Bridge Events. This was a thought-provoking conference on sustainability, focusing on the critical role of data centers in balancing power demands with eco-conscious practices. One key takeaway was a striking moment when a panel of sustainability directors from leading data center owners was asked if ESG considerations are driving their buying decisions. Their collective response was ‘no’. As a motor manufacturer with technology that can aid facilities in achieving their carbon goals, we often find ourselves frustrated by the pace of adoption. Despite a clear demand for low-carbon equipment and innovative solutions to meet efficiency and sustainability targets, if that demand isn't sufficiently reflected in design and purchasing decisions, then how do we achieve those ambitious "net-zero by 2030" goals? Collectively, we need to go beyond talk and take meaningful action ("walk the walk") to close the gap. Back from Berlin, we’ve been absorbing all the insights, discussions, and bold ideas from the 𝗡𝗲𝘁-𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁. The level of commitment to rethinking efficiency, embracing sustainability, and driving real impact was truly inspiring. Our key takeaways: 🌍 Sustainability Is More Than One Metric No single KPI defines sustainability – it’s about how all the pieces fit together: DC infrastructure, IT efficiency, energy (recycling), and emissions. 📊 Efficiency Isn’t About Ticking Boxes Sustainability isn’t a compliance exercise – it’s about real impact, measurable results, and full transparency. 🤝 Progress Happens Together From DC designers and builders to operators and IT clients – real change happens when we align efforts and drive innovation together. Net-zero data centers - how do we get there? 🌍 I had the chance to dive into some really interesting discussions at the Net-Zero Data Centre Summit in #Berlin on how AI-driven optimization can help reduce energy waste, lower costs, and boost operational #efficiency. A special moment: JP Feidner, MD of Equinix Germany, featured our AI solution in his keynote. When we started working with Equinix in 2020, AI for energy-efficient data center cooling was still a bit of a niche topic - and now, it’s on the main stage. Great to see how far the industry (and we!) have come. Also a big highlight: Catching up with Charlotte Jacobi (she/her), Mesut Dilekli, and Jens Peter Mueller. Always so valuable to exchange ideas beyond the usual day-to-day. 🙌 Thanks to Future Bridge Events for organizing and to everyone I had the chance to connect with. Now we’re off to #Amsterdam! Transparency and honesty. I don't often say that about a sustainability panel at a data center conference, but that's exactly what happened today. Katie Bachman, Jenny Gerson, Sarah Martinez, and Miranda G. Gardiner, LEED Fellow put on a masterclass regarding the challenges and opportunities for reporting carbon emissions in the data center industry. They each shared how they approach Scope 1, 2, and 3. How they work with their supply chain and customers to create the most accurate numbers possible. And detailed those areas which needed further improvement, why it's currently a challenge, and how they planned to address them going forward. No marketing, puffery, or ego. I only wish it was recorded so that more people could watch it.
