New EU-Co-Funded Project: Development of a Composite Rotor Blade for UAVs At Mejzlík Propellers, we have long provided comprehensive services — from designing optimized propeller blades to their production and certification. While our expertise in propeller blade design is well-known, it is less widely recognized that over the years, we have seen growing interest in similar services for rotor blades. Based on our experience in the UAV sector, we have observed that many companies use rotor blades that meet basic requirements but often lack the sophisticated optimization and precision we emphasize in propeller blade development. This realization led us to consider whether similar services for rotor blades could be in demand. Due to numerous inquiries, we concluded that there is indeed significant market interest. The result is the project “Development of a Composite Rotor Blade for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles”(CZ.01.01.01/01/22_002/0000756), which is co-funded by the European Union. Project Objectives The primary objective of the project is to develop an entirely new technological process for rotor blade production that: • simplifies and accelerates the manufacturing process, • reduces costs, • ensures high production repeatability, • significantly improves the mechanical, functional, and operational qualities of rotor blades. The project’s uniqueness lies in its comprehensive approach to production, which current competitive technologies cannot offer within such a short timeframe and with similar efficiency. The outcome will be a new, autonomous product with high competitive potential on both domestic and international markets. The project is being implemented in collaboration between Mejzlík Propellers s.r.o. and Brno University of Technology (VUT).

At Mejzlik, we are immensely proud to witness our partners making progress through demanding flight tests and the certification process towards new era of electric aviation. Our journey with Vertical Aerospace began in 2019 with the Gen1 VX-4 aircraft, which successfully flew in 2022-2023.    For the Gen2 aircraft, our primary responsibilities included designing and manufacturing tooling, fabricating the first propeller prototypes, supporting testing activities, and transitioning to low production for flight-worthy prototype aircraft. We ensured that all production was conducted under the highest standards to guarantee a safe and reliable product, making the entire process of getting airborne as smooth as possible.  In these often-challenging times, we have always found moments to come together and enjoy good Czech beer and cuisine 🍻 . We wish you the best of luck with the test flights and look forward to taking part in future supplier selection processes as Vertical progresses towards certification!
