While news may be useful sometimes, public information is not what I am looking for when identifying upcoming trends and weak signals. 2) Due to information overload, I have a couple of go-to sites when doing my scans. While I read op-ed articles, I will cross check the accuracy from reputable websites to make sure these plausible upcoming trends/weak signals are also mentioned there. 3) Academic research paper and scientific journals provide supporting evidence even though they do not help in identifying key trends or weak signals. Sometimes, future research done by companies can be more useful as they are fairly up-to-date.

During my work as I track trading volume of different investment funds. After my work, I do technical chart analysis to look at trends. What I realise is that there're too many data we could be tracking. If we can track them on autopilot, then get as many datapoint as possible. But we have finite time, so if we need to do manual tracking, then focus on the most essential datapoints will do. If the trend line is showing a clear downtrend, something must be happen. Thats when we need to consider what might be the internal or external events that might have cause this to happen.
