Load and Fly - Because Fast Transport Saves Lives.
Info
Since 2021, AVILUS has been developing the fully electric multicopter “Grille” (English: Cricket), which is tailored to the military evacuation of wounded soldiers. The range of around 50 km and the transport capacity of approximately 135 kg are sufficient to transport wounded combatants from areas near the frontlines to field hospitals (e.g., ROLE2). The UAV's mission is monitored from a mobile control room, the so-called Patient Evacuation Coordination Cell (PECC), which is integrated into the back of a truck. When developing the system, the focus lied on military requirements right from the beginning. This manifests e.g., in the structural concept: it takes two soldiers and 15 minutes to transition from a transportable to an operational state of the drone. Furthermore, the aircraft can be stored and transported on a standard trailer, which serves as a take-off and landing platform. The avionics were also selected according to military requirements and, in addition to jamming resilience, offer other important advantages such as connectivity to battle management systems. To keep the training effort for the remote crew as low as possible, we enable flight requests, flight planning, flight dispatch and monitoring within the battle management system. The UAV has been in flight testing since 2022.

Logistic Missions: A Well-Balanced Duo in Action (Again) As part of our collaboration with the Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces), soldiers evaluated the integration of unmanned systems within the 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻. The mission brought together UAV #Grille and UGV #THeMIS to transport military goods in an operational setting. The UGV carried the boxes to an exchange point. Here, two soldiers swapped the payload immediately from the UGV to the UAV using our container concept. The Grille completed the mission, delivering the payload to point C via air. The participating soldiers highlighted the ease, ergonomics, and straightforward handling of the 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿. Furthermore, the container allowed a simple integration with KNDS Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG. At AVILUS, we design 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀. Read more about the mission at: https://lnkd.in/gUwqpRiY

Heavy-Lift Versatility 🚁 Within the complexity of modern battlefields and the unpredictability of dangerous environments, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆-𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 like the UAV Grille boost transport capacities and logistic speed. Whether transporting time-critical supplies over 51 km or carrying out MEDEVAC missions, our drone is designed for versatile operations. With 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟳𝟱 𝗸𝗴 (e.g. 135 kg patient plus 40 kg medical cabin) and a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 750 kg, it offers the necessary flexibility for operators. Its robust design of multiple redundancy layers in avionics and powertrain ensures safe flights. We believe the future of #logistics and #medical services will be shaped by heavy-lift drones. 👉 Follow our journey.

Milestone Achieved: First Logistic Missions 🚁 In October, our flight operations team collaborated closely with the Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces) to test and analyze the integration of the #Grille in logistic tasks within a realistic operational environment. 🪖 Our ground control segment (#GCS) has been deployed the first time within the #BOXER tank in collaboration with KNDS Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG. This integration enabled us to dispatch, monitor, and control missions directly from the armored vehicle. 📡 As our CEO, Ernst Wilhelm Rittinghaus stated, “I am convinced that we are on the right track and that we must move forward courageously in this direction.” Read the full story at 👉 https://lnkd.in/gUwqpRiY

What makes a #UAV military-suitable? Welcome to #TakeOffThursday! Each week, we dive into key insights on the #Grille. This week, we’re spotlighting the Grille’s 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. We designed the Grille as a “#FlyingStretcher” to meet the high medical transport demands of large scale military operations. Key features include 𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲, and 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — delivering performance even in contested environments. Ground 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 was also essential, making it easy to move the Grille from one location to another. Integration with other assets on the field was a priority. Therefore, we developed 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (#BMS) plug-ins to ensure the Grille is fully connected to the broader tactical network. Could drones transform military evacuation and logistics? Meet the #RASEVAC ecosystem! 🚁 We are boosting the #EvacuationChain with unmanned systems to improve #RescueTimes at the frontline and ensure transport capacities in all phases. ⛑️ By teaming with a #UGV, the casualty can be evacuated directly from the point of injury. Through the #BMS connection in field, the soldiers request aerial evacuation by drone and select a casualty collection point (CCP). This 9-liner is transmitted to the #PECC, where the operator dispatches and monitors the mission in real-time, overseeing both patient and the #UAV. The #Grille evacuates the patient to the nearest surgical care in field (Role 2). Ready for the RASEVAC philosophy? Get in touch with us! 🦗
