The Swedish Armed Forces are currently undertaking a significant upgrade to their entire fleet of Helicopter 16 (Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk) helicopters, aiming to increase their operational range by 50%. This enhancement involves the installation of an additional fuel tank, which can be mounted in the cabin when required. The modification process, which began in autumn 2023, is being conducted in Sweden by personnel from the US Army and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The new fuel tank, with a capacity of approximately 750 litres, extends the helicopters’ flight time substantially, providing greater operational flexibility. This upgrade is particularly valuable in expansive operational theatres, such as Mali, where Swedish forces utilised a similar system during their international mission, which concluded in 2022. 🇫🇷🚁🚁 France’s defense procurement agency has delivered two H225M helicopters to the air and space force. The aircraft are the first two of eight H225M Caracals ordered in April 2021 from Airbus Helicopters. Compared to previous versions, the new helicopters feature improved operational capacity. Upgrades include increased detection with cutting-edge optronic cameras, a modernized cockpit, and a more precise GPS navigation system. The tech firm's SkyOS universal flight operating system has been selected to automate a range of US Army aircraft, including its fleet of 2,400 Black Hawk helicopters. On 21 November 2024, Croatia took delivery of its seventh Rafale fighter jet from Dassault Aviation, marking another milestone in the country’s ongoing defence modernisation programme. The aircraft landed at 15:45 at the “Colonel Marko Živković” barracks in Pleso, with monthly deliveries set to continue until April 2025, when the full squadron of 12 jets will be complete. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić emphasised the historic significance of these investments. “By the end of April 2025, Croatia will have all 12 Rafale aircraft, a complete squadron. This marks the beginning of the largest, historical investment in the Croatian Armed Forces, which includes drones, Leopard 2 A8 tanks, and HIMARS rocket systems,” he said. The Rafale acquisition is part of Croatia’s broader modernisation strategy aimed at bolstering national defence.
