We’re excited to share insights from our first on-site mission in Jordan, from November 5th to 10th, for the project "Preparing a Hazardous Waste Reference and National Plan." This mission marked a vital step toward establishing a comprehensive hazardous waste management system in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, alongside our partners MAEC. During this mission, we joined the launch event for the Circularity Hub for Spent EV Batteries, underscoring Jordan’s commitment to sustainable battery lifecycle management. Our journey continued with site visits, including the Swaqa Hazardous Waste Landfill and CleanCity’s incinerator and e-waste recycling facility in Al Ghabawi, to understand the local infrastructure and identify areas for strengthening. A key highlight was the kick-off working session with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health, facilitated by GIZ Jordan, SoWas Project (Salua Moussawel), and strongly supported by local partners MAEC. This collaborative groundwork will shape Jordan’s hazardous waste strategies, empowering local stakeholders and aligning with sustainable waste practices. Do you know how the bioeconomy and circular economy connect in shaping a sustainable future? It was an honor to present our Social Recycling Shipyard Project-developed and led by Black Forest Solutions and sponsored by Germany's BMUV-at GreenRIO in Marina da Glória, Rio de Janeiro. Our project contributes to the development of circular economy and bioeconomy solutions for critical environmental problems. It was opened with the presence of the German Consulat, where private and public sectors presented their insights. We explored the powerful partnership of Brazil and Germany, wherein Brazil would bring in all the valuable resources and inputs while Germany provided the solid governance structure. Clearly, this is just one example of how international collaboration fuels sustainable innovation! Thanks to all the individuals and organizations that made GreenRIO possible and to our partners in both countries. 📢 New Report: Insights and Proposed Solutions for Lebanon’s E-Waste and Battery Management! 📢   Lebanon is struggling with #electronic and #batterywaste due to limited regulations, a lack of recycling infrastructure, and no #ExtendedProducerResponsibility (EPR) system to make producers responsible for waste. Past waste crises have shown that change is urgently needed.   Through the TaDWIR (Towards a Decentralized Waste Management Integrated Response) program by UNDP and European Union, we teamed up with ELARD to help tackle this challenge. Here’s what we focused on: 〰 Understanding the Problem: We analyzed the types and amounts of e-waste and batteries. 〰Developing Solutions: We proposed a treatment approach and outlined a financial plan for effective waste management. 〰Establishing an EPR System: We developed a framework for an Extended 〰Producer Responsibility (EPR) system specific to e-waste. 〰Creating Oversight: We conceptualized a #ProducerResponsibilityOrganization (PRO) to manage and regulate waste processes. 🚨 Opportunity for plastic recycling technology suppliers in Brazil! 🚨 BlackForest Solutions GmbH is looking for qualified suppliers to participate in a quotation for the acquisition of a pre-processing plastic line, consisting of shredding, washing, and drying post-consumer plastic waste collected in the surroundings of Guanabara Bay, in Rio de Janeiro. Suppliers must have the capacity to process a minimum of 300 kg of plastic waste per hour (HDPE, LDPE, PP, PS, PET, among others). Additionally, the provider must be able to offer personnel training, operation and maintenance manuals in both Portuguese and English, and after-sales support. 📅 Expected commissioning: June 2025. Climate challenges 🌍 are global, but how can we ensure that solutions are widely shared? Last week, we participated in the RedLAC congress in Saint Lucia, Caribbean 🌴, where we discussed biodiversity and conservation goals. A central theme was the power of public-private partnerships: how can we unite forces across sectors to accelerate sustainable solutions? The Ace Facility developed by the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund is an example of how financing 💰 circular economy projects can transform realities. We are working with them to tackle the challenge of plastic waste ♻️ in the Caribbean. This week, ReverseLab had the privilege of hosting a distinguished delegation organized by the Consulado Geral da República Federal da Alemanha. Amongst the participants, we received Mr. Stefan Tidow, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, the German Consul in Rio de Janeiro Mr. Jan Freigang, Mr. Georg Bonsiepe and Ms. Caroline Schmidt from the BMUV, Timon Lepold from the German Embassy and Allan Lima. During his parallel agenda to the #G20 discussions on marine plastic waste, Mr. Tidow, together with the delegation, took the opportunity to visit our project in Morro da Babilônia, Rio de Janeiro. The visit provided a valuable platform to discuss Rio's environmental future, emphasizing the crucial role of sustainable education within local communities. We also explored the importance of #decentralizedsolutions, such as ReverseLab, in developing the necessary infrastructure and networks for plastic waste treatment. We sincerely appreciate the delegation's visit and the insightful exchange of ideas. The EU Africa RISE (Reform for Investment and Sustainable Economies) team recently kicked off the #KusankhaPilotProject in #Zambia with a community clean-up session at the #JohnMbita residential pilot site, supported by a dedicated "Task Force" of local women volunteers. This EPR-PRO pilot model for plastic packaging waste is paving the way for circular waste management. These incredible women have been instrumental in distributing recycling bins and spreading the message of proper plastic waste collection, showing the power of local involvement in environmental sustainability. With their leadership, 62 producer-sponsored bins have been distributed, enabling 100+ households to separate plastic waste at the source. This initiative highlights the impact of community ownership in sustainable change and comes on the heels of the #WorldCleanUpDay. Today, we joined hands with Freunde des Mauerparks e.V. , wirBERLIN gGmbH and Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection for #WorldCleanUpDay. For the fourth year in a row, we rolled up our sleeves and helped clean up Mauerpark, alongside a fantastic group of volunteers from various organizations. It's always inspiring to see our community coming together to keep our surroundings clean, green, and waste-conscious. 🌱 At BlackForest Solutions, every day is a clean-up day. We understand that while clean-ups address visible symptoms, solving the world's waste woes requires consistent global efforts.
