#RöthelheimBräu und Brau AG zu Besuch bei der #BrauBeviale 2024 🍻 Am vergangenen Donnerstag haben die Mitglieder der Brau-AG der lehrstuhleigenen #Lehrbrauerei „Röthelheim-Bräu“ einen Abstecher bei der #BrauBeviale in Nürnberg gemacht. Mit über 950 Ausstellern war die Fachmesse ein wahres Paradies für die Getränkebranche und eine Informationsgoldgrube für unsere Brauerinnen und Brauer. Selbstverständlich haben wir auch bei unserem ehemaligen Kollegen und Biersommelier Matthias H. Hansen und dem Ausstellungsstand von IREKS-Gruppe vorbeigeschaut und das leckere Bier verkostet. Dabei kam es zu einem kleinen Röthelheim-Bräu-Generationentreffen: Christoph Lindenberger, heute Professor an der OTH Amberg-Weiden, hat die Lehrbrauerei vor 15 Jahren mit aus der Wiege gehoben. Wie schön, dass die BrauBeviale so viele #Bierfreunde mal wieder an einen Tisch gebracht hat! An dieser Stelle herzlichen Dank an Matthias und IREKS für die großartige Gastfreundlichkeit und die Einladung. 🙏

Röthelheim-Bräu auf dem 19. Martini-Treffen Auch in diesem Jahr lud Jochen Buchelt zum alljährlichen Martini-Treffen, bei dem sich Erlanger Brauerinnen und Brauer auf dem Gelände der Bergkirchweih treffen und ihre Bockbiere präsentieren. Auch der BVT-Lehrstuhl der #FAU war mit seiner Lehrbrauerei "Röthelheim Bräu" vertreten und präsentierte ihren diesjährigen Weizenbock. Die "Hopfenweißheit" wurde mit einem Hallertauer Callista-Hopfen gebraut, der dem Bier eine besonders fruchtige Note verlieh, und trumpfte dabei mit einem stolzen Alkoholgehalt von 7,1 Vol.-% auf. Ein großer Teil des aktuellen Brauteams hat sich an dem Event beteiligt und dabei nicht nur viel Lob für die diesjährige Kreation bekommen, sondern auch viel Spaß daran gehabt, etwas von den anderen 20 Biersorten zu probieren, die angeboten wurden. Ein Hoch auf den Erfinder von Mini-Weißbiergläsern - bei 0,1 L Fassungsvermögen konnte so auch das eine oder andere Bier verkostet werden!

#BVT #Retreat This year we tried something new for us - a retreat. We started on Wednesday, July 24th at 7 am. Divided into two cars, we drove to Berghülen, a lovely little hotel called “Hotel zum Ochsen”. Once we arrived, we got coffee and started with the strategy meeting and presentations from all the participants. Everyone really gave their best. It was very interesting and motivating, but there were also lots of funny moments. In the afternoon, we went on a #hike around Blaubeuren and could admire the #Blautopf and the Küssende Sau rock. It was a wonderful route and the weather was perfect. Back at the hotel, we ended the evening with conversations and games. On Thursday, we were able to visit Teva Pharmaceuticals GmbH in Ulm. After a presentation of the company and its founding history, we were given a guided tour through the biotechnological facilities, including the recently built “Genesis” production building. We were very happy when two former BVT employees who are now working at Teva - Dr. Juliane Richter and Ben Sackmann - joined us during the lunch break. #CBPT #Posterwettbewerb #Postercompetiton #Projektkurs This year's Project Course Chemical and Biological Process Technology (Projektkurs Chemische und Biologische Prozesstechnik, CBPT) was a great success for the #BVT team. Both of the groups we supervised achieved top rankings! 🎉 🥇 First place in the poster competition went to the student group (K. Blattner, T. Fruth, E. Kistner & M. Setter) supervised by Maike Scherer with the project “Parameter investigation of a molecular communication system with the photoswitchable protein Dreiklang” and 🥉 third place went to Daniela Wegner's group (N. Ernst, J. Held, C.-E. Patru, L. Swart) with the project “pH determination using the fluorescent dye pyranine”. Congratulations to the #winners and their supervisors! 👏 ✨ #teachingatbvt

#BVTInsights #Challenge #TeachingatBVT #99eurobioreactor Also this year, the FAU Erlangen will send a team to the #99eurobioreactorchallenge.   The competition has been held at the Institute of Biochemical Engineering at Hashtag #TUDresden since 2014 under the umbrella of the #NetzwerkBioverfahrenstechnikDresden e.V.. Every year, teams consisting of 3 to 4 students and one doctoral student/postdoc from all over Germany take part in the challenge.   This year’s task is the cultivation of Bacillus subtilis var. natto for the production of gamma-polyglutamic acid within a self-constructed bioreactor for a maximum 99 €.   In an internal FAU preliminary round, three teams competed against each other with their bioreactor concepts. All teams were mentored by our doctoral researcher Matthias Tobler, with support given by Stefanie Fritzsche.   In the end, a team consisting of Niklas Zeithammel, Stefan Straucher, Timon Hertle and Julius Will, narrowly came out on top. This team has one week left to improve their reactor based on the experiences from the preliminary round and with input from the other groups.   We are happy that our team called "FAUmami" will be in Dresden for this great event from July 11th to 12th!   #Congratulations! Niklas, Stefan, Timon and Julius! We keep our fingers crossed.

#KuVSSummerSchool2024 Internet of BioNano Things June 18-20, #Hohwacht Last week, some members of the SyMoCADS team took part in the Summer School “Internet of the Bio-Nano Things” in Hohwacht on the #BalticSea. The Summer School is organized by the “Communication and Distributed Systems” (Kommunikation und Verteilte Systeme, #KuVS), a special interest group that brings together scientists and researchers working in this field and serve as their representative body for other institutions. Prof. Kathrin Castiglione gave a talk on fluorescing bio-markers and Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Schäfer took the participants into the world of gateway technologies. Our young researcher associates - Apurwa Jagtap, Daniela Wegner and Timo Jakumeit - presented their research topics during the #PosterSession on Tuesday (June 18) and had a lot of fun during the #HandsOnSession that took place on Wednesday (June 19). With all the interesting and stimulating talks and discussions and the beautiful setting of the venue, this event will remain unforgettable for the participants.
