🌍Scope 3.1 Emissions: A Critical Lever for Climate Impact Reduction Scope 3 emissions account for an average of 76% of a chemical company’s total carbon footprint, far surpassing the 24% contributed by Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Among these, purchased goods and services (Scope 3.1) represent nearly 60% of Scope 3 emissions, making them the primary driver of corporate carbon footprints in the chemical industry. The complexity of reducing Scope 3.1 emissions lies in these key challenges: 🗂️Data Availability: Scope 3.1 includes emissions from the production of thousands of products and suppliers, for many of which emissions data is not readily available. ⚖️Difficulty in Comparing Suppliers: Primary Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data from suppliers often lack harmonization in methodological assumptions, making meaningful comparisons and “greener” supplier choices difficult. 🔍 Data granularity: Most other PCF data sources provide only country-average data, failing to capture variations in climate impacts across suppliers, as well as specific reduction opportunities 🤝 Supplier Engagement: Identifying emissions reduction opportunities with suppliers can be a complex process that requires reliable information on effective reduction levers. Addressing Scope 3 emissions can be complex, but the right data can make it manageable. Supplier Footprint Analytics offers access to PCF and LCA data for nearly all suppliers of 72 bulk chemicals across 200 regions. This allows you to uncover emission hotspots, benchmark supplier performance against regional averages, and analyze technology-specific contributions to identify the main drivers of environmental impact, supporting informed decision-making and supplier collaboration. 👉 Start your journey in reducing Scope 3.1 emissions now: https://lnkd.in/eqdXVD4z #data #supplier #netzero

How cm.chemicals Enabled Henkel to Automate PCFs for 60,000 Adhesive Products and Progress Toward Net-Zero🌍📊 Henkel, a global leader in industrial and consumer goods products, aims to create the most accurate Product Carbon Footprints (#PCFs) for their extensive raw material portfolio to enhance transparency on GHG emissions. This accuracy helps them, and their industrial customers manage their net-zero transition more efficiently and offer low-emission products. The Challenge of Complex Value Chains 🔗 Henkel faced significant barriers due to the complexity and regional diversity of their value chains. Limited data availability and the broad range of raw materials made it difficult to achieve the required accuracy for their PCFs. Advanced Data Solutions from cm.chemicals 📈 To overcome these challenges, Carbon Minds provided a highly regionalized, technology-specific LCA database that accurately represents complex value chains. This database enabled Henkel to increase their GHG emission data coverage and automatically calculate PCFs for over 60,000 adhesive products. Achieving Sustainability Goals🌱 The seamless integration of our database into Henkel's workflows, along with detailed product life cycle assessments, has been instrumental in achieving their sustainability goals and enhancing GHG emission communication with customers. 💡 Want to learn more about how Henkel achieved this? 🌍 Global Emissions from Plastics and Chemicals 🌱 From the moment your smartphone alarm goes off, to the toothbrush in the bathroom, and the car that gets you to work – plastics and chemicals are with us throughout the day. They're essential, not just in the products we use, but also in packaging, healthcare, and even transportation. But this convenience comes at a cost: Plastics production contribute about 0.75 GT of CO₂ equivalents annually, while the chemical industry is responsible for 1.43 GT of CO₂, including several raw materials used for plastic production. In particular, polyethylene and polypropylene are some of the biggest emitters. So, how can we change that? 💡 There are technologies available, such as chemical recycling, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), biomass fermentation and gasification, and Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU), that can mitigate emissions. In the slider, we showcase these solutions and more, illustrating how they can reduce the CO₂ footprint of plastic production and unlock renewable carbon sources. 🚀 Do you need expert guidance to reduce emissions?
