It may be the last day of #InternationalEducationWeek, but our dedication to combining sustainability and study abroad continues! As an environmentally conscious organization, CEPA offsets our participants' carbon footprint to ensure a positive impact on the planet. Thanks to our partnership with Green Initiative, we are able to offset the emissions produced on-site by our programs through purchasing United Nations Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), which support certified compensation projects worldwide. 🌍 But that's not all! For each person who participates in our study abroad programs, we also plant native trees! 🌳 Through our work with Forest Friends, a global ecosystem restoration project from Green Initiative, and the Saimiri Foundation, a local non-profit in the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica, we're not only offsetting the carbon produced by our study abroad programs, but we are also helping restore habitats for endangered species, creating jobs, discouraging illegal logging, and promoting education and well-being in local communities. When you study abroad through CEPA, you are contributing to these environmental projects, and together we are making a positive impact on the climate and social sustainability! Third place in our Study Abroad Photo Contest goes to Quinlan Harris from Arizona State University! Quinlan's group explored Finland in May with faculty leaders Dr. Paul LePore and Dr. Jessica Early, honing their sociologist skills through comparing and contrasting the Finnish and American K-12 education systems and the differences in practices and culture that affect them. A day-trip to Tallinn gave Quinlan the opportunity to snap this photo and reflect on the city's architecture. Alissa's group explored themes of medicine, microbiology, and health throughout Europe last May with Dr. Monika Oli and Elizabeth Gadsby, Ph.D. Her photo, titled "Expanded Horizons," represents a moment of reflection as she connected what she had learned in a physics class to her study abroad experience.
