This event reinforced a key lesson: bridging the gap between startups and corporates isn’t an instant connection — it’s a journey. Congratulations to Frederick Lessmann and Lars Amsbeck of HyperHeat on closing a fantastic €3.5M funding round to build next-gen zero-emission furnaces. 🎉 Founded in 2023, HyperHeat is leveraging renewable energy to create zero-carbon industrial heat. The team has now secured €3.5 million in a funding round led by the Amadeus APEX Ventures Technology Fund, with participation from Finindus, Possible Ventures, E44 Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Fellows, and a select group of experienced business angel investors. The company will deploy the fresh capital to accelerate its strategic objectives: continue developing and testing its first industrial products, strengthen its team, intensify R&D efforts to achieve production readiness, and collaborate with pilot customers by 2025. 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Industrial sectors are critical to the climate crisis, with over 25% of global CO2 emissions from heavy industry that require ultra-high temperatures and often rely on processes that inherently emit carbon dioxide. The most carbon-intensive sectors — steel, cement, and chemical production — face significant decarbonisation challenges, particularly the need to generate extremely high temperatures while managing inherent carbon dioxide production processes. HyperHeat is tackling a critical challenge in the global effort to combat climate change: decarbonising heavy industries such as steel, cement, and chemical production. Unlike traditional methods, HyperHeat’s technology avoids degradation while providing a cost-effective solution to retrofit existing furnaces. This innovation could significantly reduce emissions in industries that have long depended on fossil fuels. In a recent interview with Tech Funding News , Frederick Lessmann, co-founder of Hyperheat, highlighted the pressing issue the company is addressing: “The energy-intensive industry’s urgent need to cut approximately 8.5 gigatons of annual CO2 emissions from industrial heat by 2050. Congratulations to IonKraft for securing €3.5m in equity funding to drive the circular economy in packaging. 🎉 The round co-led by M Ventures & TVF | TechVision Fonds and joined by HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds will be used to scale up the production and sales of coating machines. "This financing round is a decisive step to support the market launch of our technology and to prepare for future scaling. We are thrilled to have a diverse group of investors who share our vision and will provide us with support on multiple levels," says Benedikt Heuer, Co-Founder of IonKraft. IonKraft develops innovative plasma-based barrier coatings that can replace non-recyclable barrier solutions and enable a fully circular economy in the packaging industry. The company was founded in 2021 by Dr. Montgomery Jaritz and Benedikt Heuer. During his research at the Institute of Plastics Processing, Dr. Jaritz identified a market opportunity for plasma coatings. This led to the development of a new high barrier technology that makes containers both chemically resistant and fully recyclable, with a barrier effect comparable to that of glass. The patented technology enables packaging producers to replace millions of tonnes of non-recyclable multilayer or fluorinated (PFAS) packaging that cannot be recycled. In addition, the barrier technology can provide sufficient protection to allow recycled materials to be incorporated into packaging for sensitive, food or cosmetic products.
