Next Pharma Manufacturing In Europe - We’re thrilled to announce that under the lead of our co-founder and managing director Tino Mundt, we have successfully completed our next tech transfer to a European manufacturer! This milestone moves us closer to bringing our next product for pharma production to a commercial scale. One of the immense challenges we are tackling is the production of a critical starting materials right here in Europe — processes that haven't been done locally for years. Why? Starting materials are often small molecules that are hard to innovate due to their simplicity, and many currently rely on imports, particularly from China. But to build a resilient healthcare system, having secure, independent supply chains is essential. Tino Mundt: "We’re proud to say that we developed a production route at a competitive price, ensuring that local production can meet market demands affordably. Reliable local production of these key materials helps fight against drug shortages in pharmacies and mitigates risks at a larger level. In times of geopolitical tension, we must avoid vulnerabilities that could impact national health—a vital infrastructure." During our recent lab and analytical familiarization in Budapest, our team supervised the implementation and visited the future production plant from SONEAS Chemicals Ltd. Exciting times ahead! It's Getting Hot In The CCI - While everyone talks about AI disrupting tech and finance, its most revolutionary potential in Europe lies in transforming our traditional industries - as well as building new ones. As Vice President of IHK Berlin (ICC) responsible for innovative growth, I proudly initiated the #KIForum (AI Forum). > 1,000 visitors wanted to see where we are in Berlin, how their companies could benefit from the wave, and what the public authorities need to do in order to help us skim our full potential. I see our city becoming an epicenter of this industrial renaissance – where AI meets manufacturing, innovation meets impact, and the future meets the present. I had the privilege of "grilling" a panel of the Secretary of State in Berlin and other bright minds to tackle a question that's keeping Berlin's decision-makers up at night: How AI startups can further boost our city's economy? Let me be clear: AI is far more than another tool in the toolbox. Artificial Intelligence is bound to revolutionize almost every aspect of our world – including the "old economy". Across Berlin, we are reinventing traditional industries in ways that would have seemed impossible just five years ago. But here's what really excites me: Berlin has all the ingredients to become one of the global AI hotspots: - We have the scientific foundation of researchers needed - among them the top 1% in the world of AI at BIFOLD - Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data AND in other deeptech disciplines such as #GreenChemistry UniSysCat - Cluster of Excellence which makes our city so incredibly hot. - We have the talent and those who are able to incubate them appropriately #KIEZ. Our portfolio company, DUDE CHEM, is on a mission to bring back pharmaceutical production to Europe. ✨ Read on for why this is significant. 🔽 Last month, the company completed a lab scale batch of an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) at the facilities of KD Pharma Group. What does this mean? The DUDE CHEM team developed the green process in its lab in Berlin using green chemistry principles. It then successfully transferred the technology to the manufacturer and supported the laboratory familiarization. KD Pharma Group was able to demonstrate the same results in its lab as what DUDE CHEM had achieved in its lab, first time right! 💪 But let's zoom out and look at the industry dynamics and why this is an important milestone: 💊 The European pharmaceutical industry is currently dependent on outsourced manufacturing to India and China for for vital medications. 🏭 The last European production facility for Metamizol, a crucial painkiller ingredient, has closed and from 2025, all European production of this essential component will shift to China. 🔗 These trends raise valid concerns about potential supply chain disruptions, increased pricing volatility and challenges in quality control. 🏥 This presents unknown future impact on European healthcare systems. 🌟 Meanwhile, DUDE CHEM offers a better alternative. The startup is working to bring API production back to Europe, but in a greener, more sustainable manner: ✅ Local manufacturing will use a network of 30 contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) with decades of experiences in operations. ✅ DUDE CHEM's innovative green chemistry will reduce waste by 70% and CO2 emissions by 40%. ✅ Its pricing will be competitive with Indian suppliers, BUT with improved quality and easier logistical handlings.
