Last week, we held our third internal Tech Breakfast 🥨☕️ Fu and Lars shared how our teams successfully migrated our iOS and Android apps to new UI frameworks like SwiftUI and Compose 📱🚀📱 We’re incredibly grateful for all the hard work everyone has put in over the past three years to rewrite the apps. A big thank you to everyone who joined us for a wonderful and inspiring morning — we look forward to the next one!
Wie migriert man eigentlich seine Apps auf die neuen UI-Frameworks? Also von UIKit zu SwiftUI oder von XML Views zu Compose? Wie eine App-Migration NICHT funktioniert und welche Konsequenzen das haben kann, hat uns Sonos Anfang des Jahres eindrücklich gezeigt (siehe Heise Online: https://lnkd.in/emw9u2Qs). Beim dritten Tech-Frühstück haben Fu und Lars erklärt, wie sie mit ihren Teams unsere iOS- und Android-Apps erfolgreich auf SwiftUI bzw. Compose umgestellt haben. Keine große Sache, oder? Doch, absolut! Das ist eine unglaubliche Leistung. In den letzten drei Jahren haben die Teams de facto beide Apps komplett neu geschrieben – und das, ohne die Feature-Entwicklung großartig zu pausieren oder gar irgendwelche Nutzerprobleme zu verursachen. Natürlich gab es Phasen, in denen der Fokus stärker auf dem technischen Umbau lag, und andere, in denen die Feature-Entwicklung im Vordergrund stand. Es war anstrengend, und es gab auch Momente, in denen man dachte: „F**k, das lässt sich niemals lösen.“ Aber irgendwie ging es dann doch. Die Migration erfolgte Schritt für Schritt – Screen für Screen, Komponente für Komponente, idealerweise immer dann, wenn ohnehin Anpassungen notwendig waren. Und nicht nur das: Auch die gesamte Architektur wurde komplett überarbeitet. Wahnsinn. Ein riesiges Dankeschön an alle Mitwirkenden: Fu, Lars, Tony, Sergey, Philipp, Nicolas, Christian, Simon, Thorben, Florian, Tobias, Christian, Jose, Abdulrahman, Katja, Stefan. Es ist mir ein Fest, mit euch zu arbeiten! 😊

After a long break, we welcomed back the Java User Group on September 11, 2024, at our headquarters in Karlsruhe. Approximately 35 Java developers from the surrounding area attended the event, where our colleague Jens Happe presented a talk on the topic "Server, Global Reach: Running a Worldwide Marketplace on Bare Metal in a Cloud-Dominated World." After a lively discussion and Q&A session, there was plenty of time to enjoy the evening with pizza and drinks for networking and exchanging ideas.
