German battery recycler, cylib, secures double-digit million-euro grant funding from the federal state of NRW 🚀 We are honored to announce that cylib has received a two-digit million-euro grant funding commitment from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The funds will be used to industrially scale cylib’s proprietary battery recycling technology in its first-of-a-kind facility in the Currenta Chempark Dormagen. 🔋 The FOAK project and largest end-to-end battery recycling facility in Europe was only announced in September 2024, following cylib raising the largest equity funding round in European battery recycling. Now, the company has reached another highly significant milestone in its unique growth trajectory, receiving its first double-digit million grant funding through the program "Produktives.NRW" which supports the production of future-proof technologies for climate-neutral transformation in North Rhine-Westphalia with €100M. 🏭 With this remarkable financial support, cylib has further solidified its project to scale its proprietary "Optimized Lithium & Graphite Recovery” (OLiC) and recover strategically critical raw materials like lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt and manganese. Recycling 10,000 tons black mass annually, equivalent to approx. 30,000 tons of lithium-ion batteries, this project will create a circular and robust battery economy in Europe. ♻ As a further major milestone for cylib in 2024, this funding is a testament to the immense level of commitment, dedication and hard work cylib has shown (and proven) in the last two years. Each individual, from technical and production staff, engineering teams, to business, finance and administration teams were involved in the preparation of the application. Thank YOU. 💚 #teamcylib Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to North-Rhine Westphalia, Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Industrie, Klimaschutz und Energie des Landes NRW and the Stadt Dormagen for making cylib’s project a federal priority and proving that German industry resilience through technological leadership is reality. cylib is now a certified waste management company! 🌟♻️ We’re excited to announce that cylib is now officially a “Zertifizierter #Entsorgungsfachbetrieb” (certified waste management company) and a certified “Erstbehandlungsanlage nach ElektroG” (primary treatment facility according to ElektroG). These certifications confirm that cylib meets the highest standards in environmental responsibility, legal compliance, and operational excellence. Achieving this required a rigorous certification process, including a detailed #audit of our workflows, comprehensive documentation, and an on-site inspection. This not only strengthens our commitment to #sustainability but also streamlines processes, simplifies regulatory approvals, and opens new market opportunities. For us, this is more than just a certificate. Heiko Laufenberg, our Head of Supply Chain and Procurement, and responsible for Quality and Waste Management, calls it a major milestone: "I am incredibly proud of our team for approaching this process so thoroughly and achieving such an important result." What does this mean in practice? As Heiko and Benedikt, who led the certification process, explain: "This certification significantly simplifies our processes, reduces bureaucratic hurdles, and makes collaboration with our partners more efficient and seamless." Beyond optimizing our daily operations, this #certification also reinforces our position as a trusted industry partner. Many companies and institutions prefer to work with certified waste management specialists, as they guarantee compliance with strict environmental #regulations and ensure the highest #standards in resource recovery. It also creates new business opportunities, allowing us to participate in projects and tenders that require certified #expertise. This is a significant step forward as we #scale our industrial operations in 2025 and beyond. 🌍 Curious about how cylib is shaping the future of #battery #recycling? 🚀 cylib’s 2024: A Year of Growth 🚀 As we look back on 2024, we are filled with gratitude and pride for the unique growth we've experienced at cylib. It's been a year of growing as a team, growing our industrial scale, growing our expertise, and growing with an exceptional network of partners. Besides many more, we are proud to review our 2024 milestones: 🏦 Closing the largest financing round in European battery recycling In May 2024, we closed a €55M Series A round led by the leading European climate tech VC, World Fund, and the venture-arm of sports car manufacturer Porsche, Porsche Ventures. cylib was also notably backed by Bosch’s venture-arm, Bosch Ventures, the German Future Fund-financed anchor investor, DTCF | DeepTech & Climate Fonds, as well as NRW.BANK’s venture-arm, NRW Ventures. All Seed investors joined the round, including Vsquared Ventures, Speedinvest, and 10x Founders. Angel investments further solidified the landmark syndicate: Andrej Henkler, Kai Hansen, Maximilian Odendahl, Leopold König, Torge Thönnessen, and Karim Jalbout. 🏭 We bought an industrial facility In September 2024, we broke ground on its First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) industrial battery recycling facility located in CHEMPARK Dormagen. Celebrated alongside the Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, this milestone kicked off the next stage in cylib’s growth from research-based technology to pilot scale, and now to serving Europe with green raw materials at industrial scale. The facility will offer a recycling capacity of 30,000 tons of batteries per year! 🏛️ We recevied a public funding commitment In November 2024, we received a significant financial backing commitment from the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Industrie, Klimaschutz und Energie des Landes NRW. The two-digit Million-Euro grant will be used for the industrialization of our sustainable battery recycling process at CHEMPARK Dormagen. 🙌 We grew our team to nearly 100 members In 2024, our team grew from ca. 40 to over 80 people! From our mechanical pre-treatment and hydro team to our HR, IT and ESG teams, cylib expanded our expertise across all fields! Thank you to our team, who made cylib’s 2024 possible! We also thank everyone who is supporting and backing us on our growth journey. Together, we will achieve many more milestones in 2025. Until then, we wish everyone happy holidays and the cylib team a well-deserved rest after a uniquely brilliant 2024. 🌍🔋🚀 Currenta Staatskanzlei des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen Mona Neubaur Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Erik Lierenfeld Tim Hartmann Lilian Schwich Paul Sabarny Gideon Schwich
