  • The GlucCell® glucose meter together with the suitable test strips from Esco Bioengineering have been part of the Dunn Labortechnik programme for many years. The proven, portable system offers unique opportunities to users in the fields of cell cultivation research and process development to follow the course of the glucose concentrations and thus the metabolic processes almost in real time, with high precision and at comparatively low costs. The GlucCell® glucose meter is therefore often used for process monitoring and process optimization.   In contrast to diabetes glucose measuring devices, the GlucCell® glucose meter has been optimized for measurements in serum-free and serum-containing media in the field of animal and insect cell cultures.   The GlucCell® glucose measuring system is easy to use, is versatile and portable and offers a high degree of accuracy and precision of the measured values (90 and 95 %).   As only 1.5 µl sample volume is required for each individual measurement and results are displayed after only 15 seconds, even small volume cultures can be continuously monitored, and intermediate measurements can easily be made.

  • Dunn Labortechnik presents the BelloCell® Bioreactor system from Esco Bioengineering for high density cultivation in CO2 incubators of adherent growing cells in both serum-containing and serum-free culture medium. Available are different bioreactor system configurations for numerous animal mammalian and insect cells applications ranging from protein expression and production of non-secreted proteins to the production of (stem) cells, secreted proteins, viruses and monoclonal antibodies. Selecting a suitable combination of carriers, bioreactor bottle and cultivation method, large amounts of protein (miligrams to grams), high numbers of virus particles (10^11-10^12 pfu) and high cell densities (e.g. 10^9/gram BIONOC macrocarriers) can be produced eliminating the need to maintain numerous spinner flasks, dozens of roller bottles or hundreds of T-flasks.      The large specific surface area of up to 2730 cm^2 per gram of the BioNOC II Macrocarriers and specific design of the flexible reactor bottles allow precisely controlled, alternating exposure of microcarriers to air and culture medium (tidal flow principle). Thus, a perfect supply of immobilized cells with nutrients and oxygen is guaranteed and at the same time only low shear stress is applied during cell cultivation. With the newly developed, grid-like BioMESH® macrocarriers, Esco Bioengineering now offers an additional carrier system that has been specifically developed for the cultivation of stem cells (MSCs) and fibroblast-like cells and allows particularly efficient and low-particle recovery of cells. Using the BelloFeeder® Pump Module, the system can be easily converted to a continuous cultivation bioreactor using standard glass bottles as external medium reservoir.

  • New in our portfolio: ECIS® from Applied BioPhysics We are happy to announce our new partnership with the US-based company Applied BioPhysics. As new exclusive distributor for the DACH-region, Belgium and the Netherlands, we will be supporting existing customers and take care of new enquiries. Applied BioPhysics, in the market for over 3 decades, is known for Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS®) for non-invasive and label-free monitoring of cells. They offer the system Z-Theta which measures impedance and capacities via gold electrodes in cell cultures. These measurements are useful for a wide range of possible applications such as barrier function, cell migration, cell proliferation, cytotoxicity, wound healing, drug research and many more.   In addition, a wide range of accessories such as 8-, 96- or 24-well (transfilter) arrays are available. The arrays are equipped with 1, 10 or inter-digitated finger electrodes and come with plates made from PS. 8-well transfilter arrays to measure TEER (Transepithelial electrical resistance) or flow channel arrays mimicking shear stress in vivo are also available. All arrays can be put under an inverted microscope for observation of cells and come with a barcode. Arrays with small electrodes can better observe individual behaviour of cell proliferation or migration whereas arrays with many electrodes provide the advantage of smoothing out small differences and lead to a more average and statistically meaningful result. A specific tool of ECIS® for wound healing is integrated in the user-friendly software of the device. High currencies for a defined period of time are applied to kill the cells over the electrode. If these voltages are used for a very short period even electroporation methods are possible. Please contact us to learn more about the innovative ECIS® method and the products from Applied BioPhysics.   Contact: Dr. Kevin Denkmann • Managing Director Dunn Labortechnik GmbH • Thelenberg 6 • DE-53567 Asbach Tel. +49 (2683) 4 30 94 • E-Mail: info@dunnlab.de • Internet: www.dunnlab.de

NEW! From Dunn Labortechnik: Clotting Activity Tested Human Plasma from Innovative Research Coagulation is a highly regulated process leading to the formation of blood clots. Besides their function in hemostasis, in recent years it has become more and more apparent that coagulation factors can drive and promote inflammatory responses in systemic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or sepsis. When coagulation is dysregulated, severe and life-threatening complications can occur. Individuals with genetic diseases like Haemophilia suffer from excessive and spontaneous external and internal bleeding. On the other hand, people with Factor V Leiden experience excessive blood clotting, with a high chance for venous thromboembolism and increased risk for pregnancy loss. Various tests can be performed to determine the efficiency of the coagulation process, so patients with bleeding disorders or patients taking anticlotting drugs can be monitored. For your convenience and to accelerate coagulation research, Innovative Research now offers human plasma from single and pooled donors where activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) was already determined. This assay measures the time for clot formation in seconds, after activation of the coagulation process with kaolin and cephalin. In addition to being a reference to your own clotting assays, the aPTT can also be used to confirm if plasma was appropriately stored since freeze-thaw cycles could influence clotting time. Further, Innovative Research offers ELISA Kits for several coagulation factors, such as factor II, V, VIII, X, XII or XIII, as well as factor-deficient plasma, or purified and recombinant proteins. Detailed information is available from Dunn Labortechnik at www.dunnlab.de. For technical advice or in case of questions, you can contact us directly any time. #life sciences #research #sciences #medicine #drugdevelopment
