The O-RAN ALLIANCE Global #PlugFest Fall 2024 was our 6th PlugFest at the i14y Lab. We were one of 11 venues and this time we had 16 participating vendors cooperating on 10 test setups: - Two O-RU conformance tests - Six end-to-end scenarios with O-RU/O-DU/O-CU, - Two network optimization scenarios. One big focus this year was energy efficiency and the measurement of energy consumption. We also took it upon ourselves to host an event where participants of the PlugFest were encouraged to gather in an open social setting to expand upon the industry connections and relationships that they now have. The O-RAN ALLIANCE Global PlugFest Fall 2024 has now been officially and successfully completed. We at the i14y Lab, supported by Deutsche Telekom, EANTC AG, and i14y Lab consortium partners, and as part of the Joint European Venue alongside Vodafone, Orange, TIM, and EURECOM, are happy to have been one of the 11 venues hosting the PlugFest. Our thanks go out to all our partners and of course the 16 participating vendors! O-RAN ALLIANCE Global PlugFest Fall 2024, the ninth O-RAN Global PlugFest, successfully concluded at the end of November.   Participants demonstrated progress in diverse areas of open and intelligent RAN solutions. The PlugFest was co-hosted by 29 operators, OTICs, and academic and research institutions in 28 labs around the globe. A total of 115 companies and institutions participated, with some involved in multiple venues. 5G/6G Cybersecurity & Digital Sovereignty Workshop of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in Dresden today: Olaf Bonness and Reiner Stuhlfauth participated in a panel, explaining the technical requirements and lab capabilities for advanced security testing of disaggregated 5G networks. At the i14y Lab, partners Deutsche Telekom, Rohde & Schwarz, Technische Universität Berlin, and EANTC AG are conducting 5G RAN security tests, helping vendors, operators, and integrators to protect 5G radio access networks. In an earlier high-level introductory keynote, Gerhard Fettweis challenged the audience, claiming that O-RAN would have major security shortcomings by design. He hoped that 6G would introduce formal verification and "trustworthiness" principles from ground up to achieve secure solutions. In contrast, at the i14y Lab, we believe that a lot can be already done to harden 5G RANs. We work hard contributing to O-RAN ALLIANCE security standards and preparing for efficient and in-depth system validation. This includes not only the very basic set of 3GPP 33.511 SCAS tests, but also more advanced threat emulation and fuzzing, as well as security tests for cloud platforms.

We are pleased to announce that the #PlugFest Fall 2024 has officially concluded! All testing took place either on-site in Berlin at the i14y Lab or remotely over the course of nearly a month, from October 7 to November 15. The main themes of this PlugFest were: ◾ O-RAN Energy Consumption, Efficiency, and Savings Testing ◾ O-RAN E2E Deployment Templates, DevOps, and Test Automation The event featured six hosts across five labs, 23 participating O-RAN ALLIANCE vendor members, and one non-vendor open-source project. What can Lab as a Service provide for Open RAN? After a few weeks of switching gears towards promoting the activities surrounding the Fall 2024 O-RAN ALLIANCE #PlugFest, as well as this year's trip to Dublin for Telecom Infra Project's #Fyuz24, we wanted to circle back and make sure to answer this question by highlighting one of our most successful discussions from this year's i14y Lab Summit: "i14y LaaS - A practical approach to automated validation" This discussion showcased how LaaS is transforming the ecosystem through streamlined lab automation, lifecycle management, and impactful test automation. Here’s a few things that stood out: 🔹 Lab Automation: Building infrastructure as a service to simplify testing environments for interoperability, scalability, and security. 🔹 Lifecycle Management: Creating sustainable processes to maintain and evolve the lab for long-term utility. 🔹 Test Automation: Enabling consistent and repeatable testing with detailed documentation, planning, execution, and reporting—key for certification and reproducibility.
