ENERCON and Landsvirkjun have signed a contract for the construction of Iceland's first large wind farm! This landmark project will feature 28 x E-138 EP3 turbines, delivering a total capacity of 120 MW. The wind farm will be located in Búrfell, approximately 130 kilometres from Reykjavik, and will cover an area of 17 square kilometers. ENERCON and Landsvirkjun have been working together for many years, which began in 2012 with the construction of the first wind turbines in Iceland. ‘We are very pleased to be able to build on this today. For us, wind energy is a sensible addition to geothermal energy and hydropower. ENERCON continues its leading role in wind onshore expansion in Türkiye: We are pleased to announce the signing of a letter of intent with our partners Iş Enerji and Polat Enerji about the installation of a further 2,500 MW of onshore capacity. We agree to jointly realise the projects over the next five years. The signing took place yesterday at the German-Turkish Energy Forum in Berlin in the presence of German Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck and Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Ph.D. ENERCON will supply and install the turbine technology and provide long-term service for the wind farms constructed. Chosen turbine type is our new top model E-175 EP5 (rotor diameter: 175 metres, rated power: 6.0 – 7.0 MW) which is one of the most powerful and highest-yielding onshore turbines in Europe. ‘ENERCON is ready to continue its contribution to the energy transition in Türkiye," commented ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer. "I am very much looking forward to the cooperation with our partners Iş Enerji and Polat Enerji, which represents a new milestone in onshore expansion in Türkiye.” Neset Ozgur Cireli, Polat Enerji Board Member says, “ENERCON wind turbines have already proven to be very reliable and robust in our existing projects. The first project of YEKA RES 3 was successfully commissioned! Thanks to the close collaboration with our customer KALEN ENERJİ all wind turbines of Ordu wind farm in Türkiye were recently connected to the grid. The project comprises 10 E-138 EP3 with a total capacity of 40 MW. Ordu wind farm is located in the Black Sea region characterised by challenging site conditions for wind farm installation and operation. Therefore, we supported our customer right from the beginning with comprehensive site analytics to optimise turbine selection and site layout. As a result, the E-138 EP 3 was identified as perfect fit. The Ordu project is also a good example for local production: Towers, blades, and generators of the E-138 EP3 series were manufactured in Türkiye while the nacelles were supplied from German production facilities. We are always looking for ways to make work on our construction sites even more efficient and safe: For rotor blade installation we have recently been relying on an innovative combination of Rotor Blade Clamp (RBC) and Automatic Positioning System (APS). The APS developed according to our requirements consists of two propellers that are mounted on the lifting beam. With the propellers as “wings”, rotor blade installation can be performed without the use of guide ropes controlled by our installation specialists on the ground. The two propellers can compensate for higher wind speeds up to 10 m/s and are better at stabilising the rotor blades. As ENERCON, we are pleased to be part of the WiValdi research wind farm in Krummendeich (Germany) and to support current tests by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) with our expertise and product knowledge. The static tests on the rotor blades of the E-115 EP3 are an important prerequisite for further measurement campaigns, from which all partners hope to gain valuable insights into how we can make the site layout of wind farms even more area-efficient in the future and at the same time maintain or even extend the product lifetime of our turbines.
