Urgent recall for smartphone accessory sold on Amazon due to fire and burn hazards. The recall affects about 488,000 of the Charmast Power Banks sold from between December 2018 to September 2024. Total of 44 cases of the faulty battery were submitted, with four reporting injuries, such as burns and blisters. https://lnkd.in/d82RY8jq

House fires involving rechargeable electrical devices such as vapes, laptops and e-bikes are on the rise. Statistics released by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) show that there were at least 26 fires involving devices powered by rechargeable batteries recorded in Scotland last year. This is the moment an e-bike lithium battery exploded inside a home - setting the south east London flat ablaze. The force of the explosion was so great that it blew the doors off the home in Catford. „E-bikes are one of London's fastest-growing fire risks, with a fire on average once every other day.“ LFB deputy assistant commissioner Richard Field added: "We've seen around 160 e-bike and e-scooter fires in London this year and this incident highlights the dangers e-bikes and e-scooters can pose.“ The strongly continuing increase in lithium-ion battery fires can only be stopped through education and prevention.
