Exciting times as the Fraunhofer HHI research project #CampusOS nears its conclusion! After three years of shaping the future of open and modular #5G #campusnetworks for industrial applications, our final roadshow series kicked off yesterday. We began this journey at Topcon Positioning Systems’ location at AP Deutschland GmbH. The series will continue with demos at STILL (February 12, 2025, in Hamburg) and Bosch (February 19, 2025, in Hildesheim). Expert Evaluation Results at IMT-2030 Plausibility Query During the 12th FUSECO Forum (www.fuseco-forum.org), we asked the participants about the plausibility of the usage scenarios that would contribute significantly to the success of 6G and would be ready for initial deployments. https://lnkd.in/ePzeA-tb (Inspired by Dean Bubley’s: https://lnkd.in/ekse_MpS) 62 forms were completed. Here are the results and some conclusions: 1) Clear positives (in percentual order): resilience and security, ubiquitous connectivity, sustainability (clear concerns of making today’s networks better), AI and communication (there will be some AI; this is too generic), and integrated sensing and communication. 2) Clear Negatives (in percentual order): ubiquitous intelligence (maybe too generic, how ubiquitous ubiquitous would be, scores in contrast to AI and communication, which was positive), Hyper-Reliable and Low-Latency (more reliability, less ultra-low latency compared to 5G), and connecting the unconnected (contrasting with the ubiquitous connectivity). 3) Nobody was positive about everything (or negative)—the general opinion is that we will manage something and the rest are “for later," regardless if important or not. 4) Responses are split—sometimes there were so many positives as negatives—there is no consensus even in small families. Maybe because of the different participants' R&D directions... 5) The results show what they show and nothing more—they mirror the group completing the form: less than 1/3 of the FUSECO participants completing the questionnaire, experts in different domains with a clear bias towards R&D technical people in mobile network operators, campus networks, and 5G NTN. 6) Being R&D, a sort of optimism is pervasive. Without this, daring to go ahead would not be possible. However, even this optimism is highly tempered compared to the 5G. And not so high as, for example, considered in the 6G Manifesto (https://lnkd.in/eyMt9WZx). 7) Many forms were partially completed—not everybody has to have an opinion on everything, and being specialists in different domains, the answers were focused. However, it is also important to know how people relate to the other 6G R&D directions in which they do not have a direct stake. 8) I encourage everybody to make their own critical assessment of the IMT-2030. It is a sanity exercise. At least to understand where the priorities lie. And what we really expect from 6G.
