How can we achieve a harmonious relationship with forests by 2050? 🌳 In our report 'Forest Futures', we explore the need for a society to prioritize transparency and accountability in forest resource management. Luckily, we can draw inspiration from present-day examples. A case in point: FSC-certified rubber smallholder farms in Thailand, where over 1,600 farmers are educating each other on sustainable practices, such as crop rotation, to boost soil health and economic resilience. This year, companies began actively preparing for the upcoming European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Amid uncertainties caused by new amendments that surfaced late in the year, many companies had to continue working to understand their obligations and find compliance solutions. Throughout 2024, we have been providing guidance to support businesses to ease their compliance journeys. FSC Certification ensures they are well-positioned for compliance, and the add-on solutions we launched this year are specifically designed to align with EUDR requirements. This work will remain a priority for us in 2025. Learn more about how FSC Certification and EUDR solutions can help you stay ahead of the curve: https://lnkd.in/dB6UjZiW #EUDR #FSC2024

Communities, family forest owners, and Indigenous Peoples around the world are the backbone of sustainable forestry. With FSC’s Community and Family Forests Toolbox, they manage forests responsibly - fostering resilient ecosystems and sustainable livelihoods. This year, we have witnessed incredible achievements from smallholders around the world. They are making a big impact on our forests and communities in Ecuador, where Aglomerados Cotopaxi leads sustainable forest management, preserving biodiversity and supporting local livelihoods. In Eastern Uganda, the restoration of the West Bugwe Central Forest Reserve showcases the power of collaboration, revitalizing ecosystems and supporting communities under the FSC certification. With two CoPs down and one to be finalized this week, it's clear that while government negotiations show incremental progress, the real momentum for change lies with businesses and civil society. Key takeaways: • Governments alone can't fund climate action - we need a collaborative approach. • Responsible forest management is a proven, financially feasible carbon storage and biodiversity preservation solution. • The involvement of Indigenous Peoples and local communities is essential as stewards, managing a quarter of the world's land with unparalleled local knowledge. The Forest Stewardship Council is leading the change by: •Promoting sustainable forest management and nature-based solutions. •Developing tools to enable verifiable claims for the protection and maintenance of critical ecosystem services. •Working with people, governments, businesses, and other allies to catalyze immediate action. As we look ahead to #COP30 in Brazil, integrating nature into climate strategies isn't just an option—it's a necessity.
