The Group on Earth Observations Land Degradation Neutrality Initiative (GEO LDN) is a stakeholder-driven initiative that was launched in 2018 during the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Week in Kyoto, Japan. It brings together Earth observation data providers and governments to develop minimum data quality standards, analytical tools and capacity building needed to strengthen land degradation monitoring and reporting, using remote sensing and data collected on site.

Extremely excited to see the progress of the work of the team and such joint concerted efforts to promote land degradation neutrality methods, processes and practices in #Ghana through a bottom up approach. In the end, it will be about the uncharted path explored, the good course stayed and the opportunities created to capacitate communities to plan for their resilient future. This is done through community action planning with the people and for the people. Looking forward to the insights from this at the @UNCCD #COP16 GEO LDN
GEO LDN’s ongoing series, #HowtoLDN, showcases the work country teams have done this year to support land degradation neutrality. Some highlights include: 📱 #TeamGeorgia partnering with GEO LDN to develop a Land Productivity Dynamics app, which will allow experts to compare land degradation datasets. 🌳 #TeamKenya mapping suitable areas for reforestation in the Lake Baringo Basin, developing land restoration strategies and sending seedlings to schools for reforestation. 🌊 #TeamGhana establishing a system to monitor coastal erosion in the Lower Volta Basin in Keta and used workshops to promote partnerships that preserve Ghana’s coastlines.
