Aligning Sustainable Drug Policies with Development, Public Health, Human Rights, and Environmental Goals
Info
The Global Partnership on Drug Policies and Development (GPDPD) addresses the complex challenges posed by illegal drug crop cultivation, drug trafficking, and drug use. As the world grapples with the largest illicit economy, GPDPD offers a comprehensive strategy to tackle these issues at a global scale. It is commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented under the political lead of the Commissioner of the Federal Government for Drug and Addiction Policy by GIZ GmbH. GPDPD collaborates with governments and partners from international organizations, civil society, and academia. Our objective is to promote development-focused, health-centric, and human rights-oriented drug policies. At the heart of our approach is the well-being of individuals, integrating rural development with public health measures to create sustainable solutions for the global drug challenge. Join us in shaping a new international norm in drug policy, where human dignity and holistic development are paramount.

🎥 What does an #AlternativeDevelopment approach look like that is both gender- and ethnicity-sensitive? It starts with listening to communities before designing a project—understanding their specific contexts, needs, and systems. At the Expert Group Meeting on #AlternativeDevelopment in Bangkok, Dania Putri from Transnational Institute shared how diversity and community participation are essential to making Alternative Development successful. She explained why a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work and highlighted the importance of inclusive, tailored strategies. ❗ The Charter of Rights for People Affected by Substance Use is launched in Glasgow, an initiative led by the Scottish Government and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. This Charter highlights the importance of integrating #HumaRights principles into #DrugPolicy. By prioritising dignity, equality, and participation, Scotland advances efforts to address substance use through a public health and human rights lens. Using the International Guidelines on Human Rights and Drug Policy as inspiration, this Charter sets a powerful precedent at the national level to ensure dignity and agency for all. 👏 Congratulations to the Scottish Government, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (United Nations Human Rights), and all stakeholders involved in this important initiative. 📃 https://lnkd.in/eXa6_szg #PublicHealth #SustainableDevelopment #Scotland #GPDPD #NationalCollaborative The ALLIANCE

Global Partnership on Drug Policies and Development hat dies direkt geteilt
I returned to the Brandenburg forum on drugs and development in /Lubbenau, Germany, this year for critical discussions amongst member states, UN agencies, and civil society on policy responses to the growing challenges around cocaine markets. I was pleased to be able to contribute Transform perspectives on regulation, as well as raising the often overlooked intersection between drug policy and the climate and biodiversity crises - specifically around cocaine production and the nexus of environmental crimes in the Amazon. It was also welcome to see the upcoming UNDP report on the development implications of emerging licit drug markets (that I've been working on for the past year) presented for the first time

We are pleased to share this #interview featuring Sarah David, head of Global Partnership on Drug Policies and Development, highlighting the recent study on Innovative #AlternativeDevelopment Approaches. The focus on a #HumanCentred approach resonates deeply with our work—it's about transforming the lives of those most affected by the challenges of illicit drug economies. The study underscores how development can go beyond traditional terrains, prioritising #CommunityParticipation, #GenderEquality, and sustainable economic alternatives. By placing people at the centre, we can create tailored, inclusive solutions that build resilience and foster sustainable transitions to licit economies. At GPDPD, we are committed to advancing inclusive and development-oriented responses to complex global challenges. This discussion is a vital step toward creating comprehensive and sustainable solutions. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eBsyvkbp #HumanCentredDevelopment #AlternativeDevelopment #Sustainability #Innovation #GPDPD
