Interest advantage through sustainability? 💶 This question kicked off the first panel ZUKE Green Health Kongress today. As we explore the intersection of sustainability and finance, it's clear that ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors are becoming increasingly important. While ESG risks are not yet fully integrated into financial assessments in Germany due to data limitations, this landscape is evolving. Maike Lerner (BIB Essen, a church bank) expects that companies with robust sustainability strategies may enjoy more favorable financing terms, while those lagging behind might face less attractive conditions in the future. At GreenTec Dialysis GmbH, we've long believed that sustainability and economic considerations go hand in hand. Our experience in the dialysis sector has shown us that resource conservation translates into cost savings as well. We hope that many more players in the healthcare sector join the growing group of individuals, companies, and institutions, committed to transforming business for the better. Networks like ZUKE Green are vital for sharing ideas and accelerating this transformation. We’re looking forward to day two of the congress Nicole Krojer! #Sustainability #ESG #GreenHealth #Finance Photo: Henrikas Mackevicius // Pexels

Two and a half days of intense hackathon lays behind us. What a rewarding experience! Four small teams of motivated students from various study programs (Hochschule Ansbach - University of Applied Sciences) dedicated their time to tackle our challenge regarding data collection in dialysis centers. Specifically, we sought creative ways to motivate people working there to gather data relevant to sustainability. 📊🌱 It was impressive to see how quickly the students delved into the problem, developing diverse solutions in a very short timeframe. They were guided by the experienced coaches Sophie Schirle and Florian Then, which added enormous value to the process. Our key learnings? 1️⃣ Understand the problem first: The hackathon highlighted a common pitfall in our everyday business practices: rushing to solutions without fully grasping the problem. The students spent an entire day focused solely on understanding the issue, which allowed them to generate ideas that could truly address the challenge. 2️⃣ Diverse perspectives drive innovation: The students came from various disciplines and had little familiarity with the dialysis sector. This enabled them to think outside the box and propose solutions that we might not have considered. Our colleagues Dr. med. Hans-Peter Barth and Martina Ackner, returned from the event exhausted, but energized and inspired by the experience. A big applause to the student teams, who didn't give up and successfully mastered the challenge. 💪👏 Thank you Tamara Rogalski and Ramona G. of the Gründungsberatung Hochschule Ansbach for your commitment. You and your team have been wonderful hosts. Participating in this hackathon was a worthwhile investment, providing us with inspiration and new approaches. If your company is facing a challenging question, consider hosting or attending a hackathon—it's a fantastic way to spark innovation and collaboration! 🚀 🤝

We are happy to announce our participation in the upcoming hackathon organized by Hochschule Ansbach - University of Applied Sciences starting on Monday, November 18! Students from different study programs will work in small teams of 4-5 people, each selecting one of three challenges provided by us and two other participating companies. All challenges have a sustainability focus and are connected to the company's field of activity. Why are we doing this? We belief that education is a crucial pillar for empowerment. By fostering collaboration between universities and industry we can support education and inspire innovative solutions that address real-world challenges. 🤝 Additionally, stepping outside our usual environment as a company is essential for sparking creativity and fresh ideas. The interdisciplinary nature of student teams will bring diverse perspectives to the table, enriching the problem-solving process and leading to different solutions than we would have thought of. 💪 This event also presents a great opportunity for us to connect with young talent, introduce our company, and spark interest in potential future employment. 🌟 We look forward to seeing the ideas that emerge from this hackathon and to support the next generation of thinkers, doers and innovators! ✨🚀 Thanks to Gründungsberatung Hochschule Ansbach and especially to Ramona G., Tamara Rogalski, Florian Then and Sophie Schirle for inviting us and guiding us through the process. #Hackathon #Sustainability #Innovation #Education #InterdisciplinaryCollaboration

The climate crisis is a health crisis. 🌍 Yesterday, the #COP29 started, a critical moment for global climate dialogue in challenging times. It’s concerning to see some stakeholders retreating from climate commitments, often ignoring the accelerating changes in our environment, the dire threats to biodiversity, and the resulting threats to our health. At GreenTec Dialysis GmbH we believe that reducing the human impact on climate change means protecting human health. The impacts of climate change are not “just” environmental—they are profoundly health-related. How is our health affected? Some examples: 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Increased frequency and intensity of heatwaves, floods, and storms lead to injuries, mental health challenges and a rise in waterborne diseases. 𝗩𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿-𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀: Changing climates are shifting the habitats of disease-carrying insects, expanding the reach of illnesses like malaria and dengue. 𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Climate change worsens air pollution, contributing to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases that affect millions. 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Agricultural disruptions and water scarcity threaten nutrition and increase the risk of illnesses. Climate-related health risks will likely lead to an increased demand for dialysis treatment, too. Heat waves, for example, promote the development of acute kidney failure and the worsening of chronic kidney failure. In particular, dehydration and inappropriate blood pressure medication play a major role. Moreover, challenges such as water scarcity, power outages from extreme weather, and disrupted access to healthcare facilities can severely impact the ability to provide essential treatments like dialysis. So, let’s remember: 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The outcomes of this conference will shape our ability to mitigate these risks and protect human health for generations to come. Together, we can advocate for policies that prioritize both our planet and our people. 💚 #PublicHealth #Dialysis #ClimateAction 𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦: 𝘞𝘏𝘖: 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 (𝘊𝘊𝘏), 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 (𝘌𝘊𝘏)

How can we create impact? ✨ Two days at the Impact Festival in Frankfurt: so many players enter the stage to accelerate the necessary transformation towards better business practices. Digitalization is still a huge topic: to support reporting tasks, enable data-based decision making and process optimization (e.g., to lower CO2 emmissions and save ressources) or to connect different data pools with each other. Another topic with impact was the circular economy. More and more companies realize that resources are precious and that we must find ways to keep materials in the loop for longer. ♻ This event didn‘t have a specific industry-focus, so it is no wonder, that the healthcare industry wasn’t visible there. Having all the regulations in our industry in mind, it made us wonder, when circular practices will become reality in healthcare? Besides this point, it was great to see so many companies embarking on this transformational journey and how much innovation it creates. Martina Ackner, Falk Sommer #ImpactFestival #Transformation

What can we do to go green in dialysis? As pioneers in optimizing data, energy, and water consumption in dialysis, we're happy to see the growing momentum for sustainable practices in renal care. A recent paper in Clinical Kidney Journal outlines 10 action points for "greening" dialysis units. Key recommendations that resonate with our work include: ⚡Optimizing energy consumption, particularly in water treatment systems 💧Exploring innovative water conservation techniques ☀ Integrating renewable energy sources like solar power 📊 Implementing data-driven solutions to reduce resource waste The authors, the Swiss Working Group on Sustainable Nephrology, emphasize the urgency of action, stating: "The price of electricity and fossil energy is expected to increase, and it remains an open question whether the actual structure of in-centre haemodialysis will be sustainable in the long term if no changes are made." This aligns with our belief that environmental sustainability in healthcare is not just an ethical imperative, but an economic necessity. Our solutions have consistently demonstrated that green practices can lead to significant cost savings – a win-win for patients, providers, and the planet. As we continue to innovate in this space, we invite healthcare professionals to join us in reimagining a more sustainable future for dialysis. Together, we can transform renal care to be more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible. What green initiatives are you implementing in your healthcare facilities? Let's continue this crucial conversation. Link to the full paper in the first comment (that's the image source, too).

Can we use data effectively to drive sustainable change in healthcare?🌱 Sustainability disclosure becomes mandatory for many companies under the CSRD. As a supplier in the dialysis industry, we’re supporting our client’s operasan Holding GmbH double materiality analysis for CSRD reporting. This process is vital for identifying key impact factors of and on their business, guiding them on which topics to focus and which data to collect. This opportunity highlights a crucial point: Data is not just about compliance. 📊 Data is a powerful tool for transformation. Quality data allows dialysis providers e.g. to: 💡 Understand their operations deeply and identify areas for improvement. 💡Drive energy efficiency and optimize water usage—important areas in a very ressource intensive industry. The result? Operations that benefit both the environment and the bottom line. ☁️⚡💧💰 At GreenTec Dialysis GmbH, we combine medtech and green technologies and empower dialysis providers to optimize operations and reduce CO2 emissions. We’re happy to support Operasan on their journey! Together, we can create a more sustainable future for dialysis care. 🌍💚 #GreenDialysis #LoveYourData Image Source: Open Data Watch
