The Working Group Enabling Logistics Decarbonisation is driving a critical shift towards greener or zero-emission logistics by paving the way for achieving the climate targets associated with the Paris Climate Agreement. According to the International Transport Forum, demand for freight transport is expected to almost triple by 2050. Freight transport and logistics account for eight to ten per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

As companies face growing demands for accurate and transparent logistics emissions calculations and reporting, the shift from standard, modelled data to primary data is crucial. This group’s Emissions Data Exchange project aims to validate and implement the iLEAP data model developed by Smart Freight Centre and SINE Foundation, enabling seamless interoperability in emissions data exchange along the supply chain in various use cases.

🔹Cost reductions through standardised, interoperable data exchange across the logistics value chain
🔹Ability to compare emissions data and measure reductions from operational improvements
As Justin Lemmens, SHEQ-Manager at LKW WALTER, remarked: "LKW WALTER sees the need for a standardised and open way to transfer emission data within the supply chain. This data will become a basic commodity and should be exchanged as simple as possible. In 2024, we set the basis for implementing the iLEAP interface for emission data and have defined the most important use cases. Now, in 2025, we will implement these use cases in real life – opening the door for emission data transparency in the supply chain."
📌 Participants of the Working Group include Smart Freight Centre, SINE Foundation, LKW WALTER (lead), BLG LOGISTICS GROUP AG & Co. KG, Cargo Sign, Contargo, DACHSER, DB Schenker, Fraunhofer IML, Gebrüder Weiss, GRYN Network, iteratec , Maven, Rhenus Logistics, Translogica GmbH, Transporeon and ZUFALL logistics group.
