Heraeus Precious Metals

India - a cornucopia of opportunities Last week, I had the chance to visit several pharmaceutical companies in southern India. Alongside my colleagues from our Indian JV, Ravindra Heraeus Pvt. Ltd., Aryaman Choksi, and Dr. Subraraman Varadarajan, we traveled to Hyderabad and Mumbai. It was fascinating to see that many of the companies are already utilizing precious metal catalysts, predominantly heterogeneous Palladium-on-Carbon for common hydrogenations. We had insightful discussions about the potential of homogeneous catalysts, such as palladium phosphines for C-C coupling and iridium-cyclooctadienyl complexes for asymmetric hydrogenations. This trip was both professionally and personally enriching. Experiencing the cultural diversity and rich history of India, combined with its cutting-edge pharmaceutical technology, was truly exhilarating. The energy and commitment of the Indian people are incredibly inspiring. By the way: although they look like it, our palladium phosphines are not used to flavor the countless delicious Indian dishes. 🙂

International Precious Metals Institute (IPMI) brought together its members last week at its 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 in Orlando, FL. ☀️ As always, the event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the international community of precious metals experts. After many years in this industry, you see plenty of familiar faces, but there is always someone new to meet and countless insights to share. 💡   Next to other compelling presentations, I also had the opportunity to speak about Heraeus Precious Metals hydrogen-dedicated brand 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐲𝐝𝐨𝐧. 🏆 Once again, Heraeus celebrated the annual Heraeus Awards. With newly defined categories, awards were granted for outstanding projects across five different areas.   🌟 This year was special, as colleagues from Heraeus Precious Metals – Functional Materials were nominated in three of the five categories, which is a great recognition—not just for the nominated colleagues but also for everyone who drives projects and business forward in our organization every day.   🥇 Even though all of them are winners in my eyes, it is especially great that we were also able to contribute to one of the winning projects. A collaborative project between different Heraeus businesses that demonstrates the importance of working together across organizational structures. Another piece in the puzzle!!! We have won another great ally in our quest to develop 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐭 solutions for PEM water electrolysis!   Heraeus Precious Metals has teamed up with Smoltek who impressed us with their 𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚-𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 for the PTL. Combined with our unique low-loading iridium catalysts, we will boost the efficiency for PEM water electrolysis at lowest iridium amounts. Together with amazing colleagues like Elisabeth Hocke, Pragati Joshi and Karina Stanley, we are passionate about driving our chemical innovations forward. Elisabeth Hocke: My main motivation is the variety of tasks: developing new processes, optimizing existing ones and making them more sustainable and efficient. There is never a dull moment. The close cooperation with different teams, from research and development to sales, engineering, and production, enriches my daily work and inspires me to find creative solutions. Body cycle, food, machines, everything is incomplete without chemistry. I often get this feedback, how can you like chemistry? It is so difficult. I would like to emphasize here to the young generation that chemistry is fun, if you understand the basics, respect the laws of Nature, and learn Chemistry by correlating it with day-to-day life. I believe women are blessed with a touch of creativity and Chemistry is nothing but creatively answering the questions of nature such as why? and how?   Let’s continue to empower and inspire the next generation of women in science together! 💪🔬💖

February 4th is World Cancer Day – a day to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and emphasize the power of prevention and early detection.
