PROJECT: Our logistics department at HASSLACHER NORICA TIMBER was once again able to demonstrate its ability to ship very long glulam components to Australia. As with our project in Mount Gambier, we are breaking another record here: the longest single glulam beams in Australia (42m) were used back then. For the current project, the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, the largest glulam beams by volume are currently on their way to Australia. Many thanks to everyone involved for their support. We look forward to seeing the new Aquatic Centre grow. #fromwoodtowonders #timberlimitless

Ro-Ro Shipment to Australia In early November, our 37-meter-long BSH beams, manufactured at our plant in Hermagor, arrived on schedule and in perfect condition at the port of Zeebrugge, thanks to our reliable specialized transport partner. On site, our Overseas Logistics Manager Manuel Koller coordinates and oversees the professional handling onto Mafi trailers before the 300 m³ BSH is safely shipped by Ro-Ro vessel to our customer in Australia. What are Ro-Ro Ships? Ro-Ro ships (short for Roll on Roll off) are specialized vessels designed to transport wheeled cargo such as trucks and trailers quickly and gently. Unlike conventional crane-based loading (LoLo), vehicles are simply driven onto and off the ship. The drive-on decks of Ro-Ro ships are often adjustable in height, allowing for flexible use of the cargo space. Vehicles are conveniently loaded via ramps at the bow, stern, or sides. The advantages of the Ro-Ro method include short turnaround times, gentle handling of cargo, reduced need for specialized port infrastructure, and high flexibility in cargo composition. #RoRoShipment #HASSLACHERtransportmanagement #HasslacherNoricaTimber #FromWoodToWonders 🐿️

NEWS Early in October we warmly welcomed our client from the Adelaide Aquatic Centre Development, and their project team, to visit our European factories in Austria. Sarah Constructions, Mott MacDonald and Standstruct spent several days touring our main facilities in Austria to gain a more in-depth understanding of our facilities, processes and people. The tour provided a full life-cycle of the Hasslacher Group, showcasing the vertically integrated nature of our business. After a nice introductory dinner in Vienna, we toured our project at HoHo, which, at 89 metres tall, was the world’s largest timber hybrid building when completed in 2019. We then started our journey through the life cycle of our mass timber products. First, we toured the PEFC-certified forest nearby our HASSLACHER NORICA TIMBER Preding mill, to gain knowledge of the sustainability credentials and the circular economy of forestry; where our valuable raw material is born. We then followed with a visit to our HASSLACHER Group headquarters in Sachsenburg, to visit the sawmill and showcase how the raw logs are turned into our visually stunning European spruce rough sawn boards, ready for further processing. Here, we also enjoyed our first of many traditional Austrian cuisines. Next, we toured both our large-capacity glulam plant at Sachsenburg, as well as our main Cross Laminated Timber plant in Stall. This highlighted the process of turning the raw material, rough sawn timber boards, into stunning products of high quality and precision. A particular highlight of this tour was the technology and automation that we implement in our group. Finally, we toured our highly customised plant at Hermagor, where we create our massive glulam beams that can be block-bonded, as well as our curved glulam which sets us apart from the industry. We were greeted with a traditional Austrian lunch of “Jausen” before touring the plant. This was our most important tour, where all of the material for our project is manufactured, including the enormous single-piece rafters. These beams measure a staggering 37.1m long x 2.20m high and 280mm wide, making these by far the largest glulam beams to ever be used in Australia. Stay tuned for more information on this! We greatly appreciate our client’s commitment to us, taking valuable time from their schedules to make the long journey from Australia and we can’t wait to see the project materialise onsite. Thank you Tyson Infanti for organising this trip and showing around our customers. #fromwoodtowonders #timberlimitless #AdelaideAquaticCentre

PROJECT  Designed with sustainability in mind, the new headquarters for St LukesHealth in Launceston, Tasmania, incorporates over 400 m³ of glulam. A key feature of the design within this 5,000 m² office development is the retention and integration of 19th-century warehouses, which structure the foyer and create a seamless connection to public spaces and the adjacent church grounds.  The contemporary tower, which rises above these historic warehouses, showcases modern timber technology while preserving elements of the past, such as the original timber trusses. This blend of old and new materials highlights the innovative approach to the building’s design, balancing heritage with modern architectural techniques.
