Funding ambitious climate and biodiversity action.
Info

🎉 Great news! We have successfully completed the Renewables for Sustainable Ukraine project! 19 solar power plants and a heat pump are now benefiting Ukrainian communities. This is especially valuable in times of war, as communities gain more resilient energy supply and long-term cost savings. Numbers that inspire: ▫️ 866,000 Ukrainians will benefit from renewable energy. ▫️ 1.07 MW – total capacity of 19 solar power plants. ▫️ 50 kW – capacity of the heat pump. ▫️ UAH 11.61 million saved annually on energy costs. The project was implemented by a consortium of NGOs – NGO Ecoclub, Ecoaction - Centre for Environmental Initiatives 🇺🇦, Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation, and RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation – within the Renewables for Sustainable Ukraine (R2U) initiative, implemented by GIZ Ukraine on behalf of the German government. 💡 Learn how communities ensure energy stability in the most critical moments – watch our project results video! The project “Renewables for a Sustainable Ukraine” is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (@BMWK) and with the support of International Climate Initiative. 💚 A huge thank you to the German government, our partners, and communities for their shared contribution to Ukraine’s energy resilience! #R2U #heatpump #solarpowerplant #UkraineRecovery #GreenReconstruction

🌍 Did you know that methane is a potent greenhouse gas (GHG), with more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide over the first 20 years after it reaches the atmosphere? Lahore's Lakhoder Landfill receives and disposes of over 5,500 tons of waste at this site daily and is a large producer of methane that is detrimental to our environment and health, fueling Lahore's record-breaking smog! With the right technical expertise, Lakhodair's landfill site can be transferred into energy 💡 and even revenue 💵! This is why representatives from the German government under the “Supporting Preparedness for Article 6 Cooperation” (SPAR6C) program, will be providing technical support to what will be Pakistan's first Municipal Solid Waste carbon market project, reaping environmental, social, and economic benefits. such as: 🌲 Environmental Impact: Significant methane emission reductions contributing to NDC targets. 💰 Economic Growth: Revenue generation through carbon credit sales and energy production. 🏢 Institutional Strengthening: Enhanced local capacity for carbon market integration. 📈 Scalability: The project serves as a model for replication across other landfill sites in Pakistan. Urban India takes climate action! The International Climate Initiative #IKI is actively supporting the integration of #climateaction measures into #urbanplanning in India, helping cities become more resilient and sustainable. With rising temperatures, flooding, and water shortages, it is essential to embed climate considerations into urban development. Cities are not only major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions but are also highly vulnerable to climate change impacts. Climate-sensitive planning is crucial for a #sustainablefuture. Through initiatives like Urban-Act, IKI is promoting strategies that prioritise climate action in urban design. This includes introducing green infrastructure, reflective surfaces, and sustainable materials to enhance urban resilience and improve quality of life. Such initiatives are vital to preparing India’s cities for the challenges of climate change while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 🌎 ♻️ Recap: Future Forum Green Hydrogen – Challenging Entrenched Power Structures in the Energy Sector 📑 Today, we had the honor of presenting and spotlighting a new study at the Future Forum Green Hydrogen event, hosted by H2-diplo - Decarbonization Diplomacy, focused on the role of Feminist Foreign Policy in fostering a just energy transition. 👓 During this engaging online event, our manager Johanna Schaefer-Kehnert introduced our upcoming #study, which will be published on Friday. The study explores how entrenched power structures in energy have long prevented inclusive, sustainable transformation — and how feminist foreign policy can help overcome these barriers. 👉 Key highlights from the event: Keynote Address by Jennifer Morgan: Jennifer Morgan, State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action, Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany highlighted the importance of tackling structural barriers to decarbonization and emphasized the need for inclusive, transformative climate action in her keynote address. 💪 Empowering Women for a Just Transition: The discussions reinforced the critical importance of women's empowerment and increased female participation in decision-making processes, but also the role of men and masculinities ensuring that the transition to a net-zero energy future is truly inclusive and equitable. 🟣 Feminist Approaches in Uncertain Futures: The discussions emphasized the need to strengthen global commitment to a just energy transition as well as to ensure that feminist approaches remain a key framework despite political shifts, also moving beyond mere labels. 🎤 We were joined by a distinguished panel of experts Christine Lins, Joy Nzue, and Mechthild A. Becker who shared their valuable perspectives on fostering social transformation processes to create more inclusive, resilient energy systems. 💐 Thank you to Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH H2-diplo - Decarbonization Diplomacy panelists, and participants who made this event a success. Stay tuned for the official release of our study this friday!
