Super thrilled to have selected for the Vancouver Fall Residency for our narrative VR project CAPTAIN NEMO with Sönke Kirchhof, produced by INVR.SPACE GmbH. I am honored to be taken the time to focus on research on marine biology and Indian history as well as characters development. This immersive experiences tackles a critical post-colonial take on Jules Verne's character and presenting an ecological fable. The residency is an initiative by Consulate General of France in Vancouver , the Newlmages Hub by Forum des images , @Alliance Française Vancouver, #InsistuteFrançaisVancouver and @Emily Carr University of Art + Design (Vancouver), @, and @Basically Good Media Lab . In November I shall be spending time in the wonderful city of Vancouver. Let's meet if you are around. Synopsis: Captain Nemo is the most well-known French literary character abroad, but who knows his true Indian origin? Step into the shoes of this warrior scientist, a survivor of the Nautilus' wreck. Face the British Empire's new weapon, a giant robotic squid, to save your crew. The key to your freedom lies in Nemo’s Indian heritage: the power of symbiosis with nature. In this imagined sequel to Jules Verne’s famous 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, dive into an Indian steampunk universe. This unique VR narrative experience revisits the adventurer hero from a postcolonial perspective and offers an ecological fable about the preservation of the ocean depths. The 81st Venice International Film Festival (Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia) proudly presents its premiere of “Symbiosis/\Dysbiosis: Sentience”, an extraordinary #XR installation that explores the intricate web of microscopic connections binding us to the world, Powered by Resonite. This immersive experience, conceived by renowned creator Tosca Terán, invites participants to journey deep within an old-growth forest, where their real-time EEG data and the bio-electrical activity from living fungal Mycelium control their path. Notably, this marks the first experience from Resonite to be premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Join us at #VeniceImmersive2024 from August 28th to September 7th. “Symbiosis/\Dysbiosis: Sentience” will be exhibited at Venice Immersive Island. About the Experience: Symbiosis/\Dysbiosis: Sentience combines real-time fungal biodata streams with EEG data from Guests, creating an environment where participants perceive and interact with the microscopic connections formed within us, on us and around us. Within the expanded reality installation, Nanotopia creates an evolving soundscape with living Mycelium that is directly connected to a custom synthesizer and bio-electrically connected to the virtual environment. Through whimsical storytelling, live actors, and a live soundtrack featuring the star of the show, Ganoderma lucidum, this installation creates a dynamic, interactive environment. Participants are not mere spectators but active contributors to the intricate balance and potential discord within these relationships, reinforcing the notion that everything is connected. 🎨 #URBANIMMERSION Workshop Recap: #Sculptural #Painting in Virtual Reality - Led by Maja Dierich-Hoche and her art students from Universität Potsdam, our workshop #4 brought together a diverse group of artists, students, #VR enthusiasts, VJs, and even costume designers 🎭 They aimed to inspire participants through hands-on experience and thoughtful reflection on artistic #design in #immersive virtual spaces. The group explored how to create innovative works of art that serve as critical reflections on digital modernity - a perfect blend of creativity and technology. #UrbanImmersion Workshop #3 done 🦾We had an incredible session full of passion and innovation, led by Christina "XaosPrincess" Kinne! Here's a glimpse of what we explored: 🤖 A deep dive into creating a social and friendly #chatbot that acts as both a bartender and a life coach. 🔎 A historical look at chatbots, from #ELIZA, the first chatbot ever, to the cutting-edge capabilities of #GPT-3. 🤯 Insightful discussions on the #Uncanny Valley effect and different strategies to overcome it. 🧠 Technical and ethical implications to consider when creating an AI-powered chatbot for social VR. 🎨 Conducive immersive design approaches for AI #NPCs and virtual environments. 💗 How #social VR can keep you sane in times of isolation. The session sparked endless questions about building our own chatbots, with the key question being: When can we start building one ourselves?
