Lighting plays a vital role in shaping how we experience spaces. ✨ Our design at Drei Höfe in Berlin highlights our dedication to enhancing both architecture and urban experience. #lightingdesign #lichtvision #architecture #design #light #dreihöfe #berlin
“Drei Höfe” – light, design and urban life in the Lützowviertel district. In the middle of Berlin, close to Potsdamer Platz and Tiergarten, an impressive mixed-use building has been created in the form of the “Drei Höfe”. The design by Tchoban Voss Architekten combines modern architecture with the charm of Berlin's traditional “backyard” structure. Living, working and retail have been harmoniously combined here to enrich urban life in Berlin. The three individually designed, green inner courtyards create ideal spaces for encounters and at the same time offer places of retreat in the middle of the city. When lighting the courtyards, emphasis was placed on creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere in the evening hours that blends harmoniously into the prestigious residential concept. Various luminaires set accents and emphasize the architecture without dazzling or even disturbing the residents. To meet the individual requirements, custom-made pendant luminaires were installed in the passageways, based on the NauticProfil system, which is ideal for supplying long lengths with just one feed-in. Despite their impressive size of up to 3 x 10 metres, the rectangular luminaires appear almost weightless thanks to the small number of suspension points. This allows them to blend harmoniously into the overall architectural concept and emphasize the spatial effect of the courtyards. At the AIA International Conference 2024 (AIAIC24), forward-thinking architects and designers converged to explore sustainable innovation in architecture. The spotlight on 83 King Lam Street, designed by COLLECTIVE, exemplified how thoughtful interior lighting transforms spaces into cohesive and functional environments, enhancing both aesthetics and experience. As the lighting design consultants for this project, we at #LichtvisionDesign addressed intricate challenges to create a dynamic, visually engaging interior environment: 💡 Accentuating Materiality: The interiors feature unique greenish stone, a defining element of the design. To highlight its natural character, we meticulously tested and selected color temperatures that bring out its depth while complementing the broader palette. 💡 Dynamic and Adaptive Auditorium Lighting: A tunable white lighting system was incorporated to provide flexible scene settings and adjustable color temperatures. This ensures the space can adapt seamlessly to diverse functions, from intimate gatherings to large-scale events, while maintaining optimal ambiance. 💡 Innovative Atrium Lighting: The atrium ceiling, a bold architectural feature resembling an inverted staircase, demanded precise lighting strategies. Our approach ensured appropriate illumination while concealing technical elements like MEP and HVAC systems, preserving the purity of the design. Through strategic and innovative solutions, the lighting harmonizes with the architectural vision to elevate user experience and reflect the project’s commitment to excellence. This project underscores the integral role of lighting design in modern architecture—enhancing materials, defining spaces, and supporting functional adaptability while upholding sustainability and innovation. Lighting Design Commissioning Update: Hong Kong International Airport - Air Traffic Control Tower of the Third Runway Concourse Development _ Lichtvision Design's focus for the New Air Traffic Control Tower is twofold: enhancing the visual presence of this landmark structure while ensuring a safe environment for pilots, tailored to the unique demands of an aviation facility. At 85% completion, with final handover slated for year-end, we are intensively calibrating the lighting systems to achieve both aesthetic and functional excellence. 💡 Design Philosophy and Execution: The control tower’s lighting strategy centers on achieving a striking visual impact while minimizing light visibility from the air. Given its proximity to an active runway, our lighting design carefully considers aerial viewpoints. All linear light fixtures are oriented downwards to mitigate direct light visibility for pilots during night operations, prioritizing safety without compromising the control tower’s aesthetic appeal. 💡 Innovative Dimming Approach: Our adaptive dimming system adjusts during both dusk and night. At dusk, lighting levels increase to ensure the tower remains visible against the fading sunlight. As night progresses, dimming reduces to align with ambient light, minimizing contrast and light pollution while maintaining a refined illumination. As we approach the final phase, our team remains focused on testing and refining the lighting setup to ensure a seamless integration of beauty and functionality that meets the needs of airport operations and the expectations of the Hong Kong public. Highlights from Hong Kong International Lighting Fair 2024 _ Lichtvision Design was delighted to present at the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair 2024, "Illuminating Icons: Innovations and Challenges of Hong Kong's Iconic Projects" which showcased: The Henderson and Christie’s Asia Pacific Headquarters. Project Lead Designers Cris Batula and Jane Tsai explored how thoughtful lighting elevates architecture into immersive, user-centered experiences. | The Henderson | This 36-story landmark by Zaha Hadid Architects, inspired by the Bauhinia flower, represents modern elegance in Hong Kong’s Central district. The lighting concept, "Dancing in Harmony," flows seamlessly with the building’s curves, balancing brightness and avoiding glare on reflective surfaces. The Henderson is LEED Platinum certified, utilizing smart sensors and high-efficacy fixtures to align beauty with sustainability. | Christie’s Asia Pacific Headquarters | Located within The Henderson, Christie’s HQ spans 50,000 sq. ft. of museum-grade galleries and luxury client lounges, designed by Collective Studio. The lighting here is adaptive, creating tailored atmospheres for art and exhibits with custom fixtures and dynamic controls to enhance the visitor experience. | Key Presentation Insights | Cris and Jane’s presentation also addressed several challenges faced when illuminating Hong Kong’s architectural icons. These include adapting innovative lighting technologies to specific structural forms and environments. They discussed: Dynamic Lighting Control Systems: How smart, adaptive lighting can respond to both environmental conditions and user needs. Sustainable Lighting Choices: Prioritizing energy-efficient solutions that support long-term environmental goals. Adaptive Lighting Designs: Creating flexible designs that enhance user experience, whether for exhibitions, events, or daily use. These strategies help shape the identity of Hong Kong’s urban spaces, enhancing both visibility and accessibility. The design integrates seamlessly into the city’s vibrant nighttime cityscape, contributing to the city’s evolving urban fabric. | Transforming Lighting as a Tool for Urban Identity | Cris and Jane's work demonstrates that lighting goes beyond mere illumination; it’s a transformative tool that highlights architectural beauty while fostering a sense of place and community. By responding to both the city's unique environment and its dynamic needs, their designs are setting a new standard for lighting in complex urban settings. The session was an invaluable opportunity for attendees to understand how lighting can adapt to the ever-evolving metropolis, helping cities like Hong Kong achieve a balance of innovation, sustainability, and community-focused design. #LichtvisionDesign #HongKongLightingFair #TheHenderson #ChristiesHQ #LightingDesign #ArchitecturalLighting #SustainableDesign #UrbanIdentity

The Henderson is the latest iconic masterpiece in Hong Kong's Central district, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, symbolizing the final piece in the puzzle of Hong Kong’s classic cityscape. Taking nearly eight years from design to completion, the building’s form is inspired by the budding flower of the Bauhinia, featuring smooth glass, stone, and specially crafted metal finishes. Its elegant, flowing lines transform natural shapes into architectural language, achieving a seamless transition from exterior to interior. We are thrilled to see the opening of Christie’s Asia Pacific headquarters at #TheHenderson in #HongKong! Collaborating with COLLECTIVE on this iconic space allowed us to craft a lighting design that brings both the architecture and artworks to life. Every lighting detail was carefully tailored to create an atmosphere that is both inviting and elevating, seamlessly enhancing the gallery's aesthetic while offering flexibility for various exhibitions and events. A huge congratulations to the entire team at #COLLECTIVE and Christie's for this remarkable achievement in design and innovation.
Last month, we celebrated the opening of our project: Christie's new Asia Pacific headquarters at The Henderson, an iconic 36-storey tower designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in the heart of Central, Hong Kong. Spanning 50,000 square feet across the 6th to 9th floors, our design integrates a saleroom, museum-standard galleries, dedicated client lounges, and open offices. Christie’s new Asia Pacific home now serves as a one-stop central hub for collectors, delivering an unparalleled client experience in the auction industry. To align with Christie’s forward-thinking vision and support their year-round events with minimal setup time and environmental impact, the design incorporates a meticulously planned innovative changeover strategy. The strategy utilizes a series of large, electronically movable walls and sliding walls that can easily transform the spatial layout of the gallery spaces on the 6th and 7th floors. Additionally, an internal staircase connecting the 6th, 7th, and 8th floors serves as a vertical gallery for curated displays, enriching the experience for all visitors. Advanced AV technology ensures seamless transitions for live auctions and broadcasts, offering flexibility for all stakeholders, from collectors to staff. This project represents a comprehensive architectural effort to create a space where art and objects shine, while also providing an infrastructure that’s future-ready for Christie’s growth. The end result wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of everyone involved. Special thanks to all who contributed to the project: JLL Hong Kong J. Roger Preston Ltd.
