Located in the center of the growing hotspot Gatelands Buisnesspark Kienberg at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, THE UNIQUE is a building ensemble consisting of an office building with a roof terrace, Italian restaurant and ipartment living concept in the adjacent Aparthotel. The inviting design of the building with its natural stone façade, light-flooded rooms and spacious lobby with open gallery creates a stimulating feel-good atmosphere. In keeping with the motto "Green Working & Living", the building ensemble encloses a green inner courtyard, designed as an oasis with campus flair. The green space with generously laid out planting beds with various grasses and insect perennials is interrupted by curved paths with seating options. This breaking up of linear structures encourages people to think in different directions, creating an atmosphere of emergence. The direct view of the adjacent nature reserve gives it an additional sense of space. The result is a green identity that users can feel, experience and even touch. The green identity of the building ensemble is also underlined by its DGNB gold certification for sustainable building. #rainerschmidtlandschaftarchitekten #rainerschmidt #landscapearchitecture #design #buisnesspark #theunique #berlin #kienberg

We are pleased to announce that together with Schulz und Schulz Architekten and Lindenkreuz Eggert | Bildermacherei & Utopografie, we have won the first prize in the competition for the new Patrick Henry Village arrival center in Heidelberg. The closed off and functional arrival center becomes an open and dynamic living space. It integrates itself as a natural part of the surrounding city and offers an adaptable, long-term and versatile structure. The large number of existing trees will be supplemented, creating the image of a forest settlement. Opposite this settlement is the public square on Parkway, which is paved as an urban space and transformed into a resilient and adaptable open space through urban greenery and large trees. The strong greening of the accommodation area and the sports areas in the northeast corresponds with the forest settlement and creates a uniform overall picture. The many shady trees, together with green areas, façade greening and intensive roof greening, provide natural cooling and at the same time plenty of habitat for the local fauna. The result is a welcoming and peaceful place for community and neighborly exchange. © Schulz und Schulz / Rainer Schmidt Landschaftsarchitekten und Stadtplaner GmbH / Lindenkreuz Eggert I Bildmacherei & Utopografie #rainerschmidtlandschaftsarchitekten #rainerschmidt #landscapearchitecture #urbanplanning #design #architecture #competition #arrivalcenter #heidelberg

We are happy to announce that together with schneider+schumacher we won the first prize in the competition for the urban village in Lörick, Düsseldorf. The idea of the urban village is based on the concept of combining landscape and city in an independent, versatile and sustainable settlement model. Clearly defined, compact settlement units with green spaces, squares and courtyards form communities while retaining an urban potential. The offer is aimed at people who appreciate the advantages of a city but still want to feel connected to nature. With three central squares and scattered meeting and recreation points for young and old the sense of community is strengthened. Urban gardening and farming can contribute to the ecological value of the area. A near-natural and varied design of the many open spaces creates different vegetation structures, whereby existing woody structures are preserved, enhanced and expanded to provide different habitats for different species and additionally promotes a positive microclimate for human and environment. The whole concept offers a vision for the future of Zwischenstadt as a sustainable and communicative neighborhood. #RainerSchmidt #rainerschmidtlandschaftsarchitekten #landscapearchitecture #urbanplanning #design #architecture #competition #duesseldorf

We are pleased to announce that our design with Baumschlager Eberle Architekten has been awarded second place in the competition for the “Replacement building at Maximilanstraße 53 in Munich”. Our design treats the listed building with great respect and at the same time conveys a contemporary and appropriate self-confidence. Varying openings in the natural stone façade structure the building across the storeys and along the street lines. This gives it clarity and anchors it as a building block in the urban space. The inner courtyard, on the other hand, interacts with the neighboring buildings to create a dynamic image. The extensive greenery on the surfaces and façade creates an artificial, inner-city green space that offers a high quality of stay for employees and residents. The green inner courtyard shines out into Maximilianstraße and, together with the paving, creates a uniform image that can be recognized as a flowing continuum. An intensive and extensive green roof provides a further recreational area for employees to take a break or work. The green approach of the design supports the preservation of the ecological balance through the high level of biodiversity. Together with the use of PV systems, retention roofs and the use of rainwater through the sponge city principle, an attractive area is created that contributes sustainably to improving the urban microclimate. #rainerschmidtlandschaftsarchitekten #rainerschmidt #landscapearchitecture #architecture #urbanplanning #design #competition #munich #maximlianstraße

We are pleased to announce that our concept for the redesign of the Matthäikirchhof in the center of Leipzig has been awarded third place. Our Design is taking the rich history of the region into account and enhaces it in a historical and ecological way. The redesign will take place in three phases: The first section includes the construction of the Round Corners, which will serve as a new archive building and house historical documents. The uncovered remains of the former castle keep will also be preserved. Matthäisquare itself will be generously designed and furnished with historical elements. The second section will be transformed into a center for democracy by opening up the closed block to the city. Various squares will invite people to discuss different historical topics. The third section emphasizes the historical course of the site and continues the scale of the classicist house on Richard-Wagner-Platz. The residential courtyard will be transformed into a versatile recreational area for young and old, offering a variety of leisure activities. The entire concept is characterized by a green character. Most of the existing trees will be retained and supplemented with native plantings to create habitats for indigenous animals. Wildflowers and plants on roofs and roof terraces promote biodiversity and create a beneficial microclimate and a pleasant atmosphere for history and its visitors. We also want to thank Sero Architekten, Kollektiv B and rendertaxi for the good cooperation. #landscapearchitecture #rainerschmidtlandschaftarchitekten #rainerschmidt #urbanplanning #architecture #design #competition #leibzig #matthäikirchplatz #matthäikirchhof
