I’m still processing the incredible news that on November 8th, the LIDC - International League of Competition Law, in the person of the jury member Prof. Jules Stuyck, awarded me the 2024 Jacques Lassier Prize for my PhD thesis: Patent Aggregation, Innovation, and EU Competition Law. In my acceptance remarks, I had the privilege of expressing heartfelt gratitude to those who made this achievement possible. My deepest thanks go to the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, especially Prof. Josef Drexl, for their unwavering support, and to Maastricht University Faculty of Law, particularly Profs. Celebrating Excellence at the MIPLC Graduation Ceremony!   On Friday, November 15, the Class of 2023/24 proudly celebrated their graduation at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition. The evening was a testament to the dedication and achievements of our graduates, surrounded by the warm smiles and applause of their proud family and friends.   The ceremony featured a heartfelt commencement speech by Ana Carolina da Motta, MIPLC alumna (Class of 2006/07) and Senior Manager for Digital Affairs & AI at AWS Public Policy EMEA. Ana shared her inspiring journey and words of wisdom with the graduates.   This joint degree, awarded by both the University of Augsburg and the Technical University of Munich, reflects the strong academic partnership of our four unique cooperation partner institutions: Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, University of Augsburg, Technical University of Munich, and The George Washington University Law School. These distinguished partners were represented at the ceremony by MIPLC Project Board members Professor Dr. Christoph ANN (TUM), Professor Robert Brauneis (GWU), Professor Dr. Josef Drexl (MPI), and Professor Dr. Michael Kort (UA).   Congratulations to our graduates on this remarkable milestone! More customers = more fund raised 🤑 It is super obvious, but here is the proof! We collected the reference customers of 19k startups and correlated them to startup success. Below are the results from David Heller & Daehyun Kim from Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition. I love the startup ecosystem. But I hate the fundraising obsession. 🤮 It appears like Founders(s)+Investor(s)=Successful startup That is only a part of the story... For anybody actually innovating however it is obvious: 📌 Customers enable the feedback loops to iterate upon. 📌 Customers are validating businesses allowing investors to deploy investments. 📌 Customers are a sustainable source of funding for businesses.
