We are a proud part of the Mercedes-Benz family and a supporting pillar within IT. As a wholly owned subsidiary, we develop technological innovations, digital products and advanced software solutions exclusively for Mercedes-Benz. We drive the transformation towards "100 % digital" while setting new standards in the context of car connectivity and the digitalization of vehicles and sales. As a Mercedes-Benz subsidiary, we enjoy great trust and take on even more responsibility: We always think ahead, question the status quo, develop ideas, and break new ground. Standing still is not an option for us, we always keep moving! This agile mindset and the courage to change are part of our DNA: Having started in 1998 as a project spin-off with seven colleagues, we have developed into a trustworthy partner and strategic ally for Mercedes-Benz under the former company name Daimler TSS. We are immensely proud of our heritage – and at the same time look ambitiously into the future as the largest software development subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Today, more than 1,400 employees in Ulm, Stuttgart, Berlin, and Karlsruhe as well as in our project hub in Kuala Lumpur work together at Mercedes-Benz Tech Innovation to realize our visions for Mercedes-Benz. What unites us is our enthusiasm for innovations and the shared passion for the latest technology combined with the belief that individual freedom and empowerment are essential for progress. In addition, as part of Home of Tech, a global tech network at Mercedes-Benz, we work together with other units on the megatrends of our time: digitalization, connectivity, electrification and and sustainability.

Code the Future of Navigation: Students with ML (Machine Learning) and LLMs (Large Language Models) approaches in the fast lane! 🚗 Creativity, teamwork, and vision were the driving forces behind our hackathon with the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). Twenty-five talented students gathered at our location in Karlsruhe to revolutionize navigation. Our "Code the Future of Navigation" hackathon set the stage for creative exchange between research and industry, with three exciting focus areas: ✅ Personalized route planning: Adaptive navigation tailored to individual preferences and contextual factors. ✅ Driver behavior analysis: Creating dynamic driver profiles based on behavioral data. ✅ Routine & pattern recognition: Predicting driving behavior to enhance navigation efficiency. Different teams – diverse innovative approaches: 💡 Predictive route modeling – Using ML methods like random forests to predict routing decisions based on historical data. 💡 Utility-based decision modeling – Combining ML with utility theory to analyze and weigh key factors influencing route choices. 💡 Carpooling & personalized travel patterns – Identifying and leveraging individual mobility patterns to optimize shared rides and route planning. 💡 Weather-aware route optimization – Integrating weather data into routing algorithms, including meteorological data processing and optimization strategy adjustments. 💡 Personalized stop recommendations with LLMs – Leveraging LLMs to generate customized stop recommendations based on driver profiles and contextual factors. Inspiring talks from experts like Jens Nahm, Harry Baur, Peter Dung, Franziska Pöpperl, Alexandra Wins, Daniel Saad, Johannes Nonnenmacher, and Jochen Mehlhorn fueled the spirit of innovation. Special thanks to the KIT and Fabian Rybinski for supporting the collaboration between academia and industry. To support these innovations, we provided high-quality synthetic datasets simulating real-world driving behavior, generated using data from our business stream “One Customer”, LLMs, utility theory, and probabilistic methods. The results were impressive! They will be integrated into ongoing projects and presented to our Mercedes-Benz AG Business Partners. Our hackathon was a huge success, marking a significant step towards a connected and intelligent future of navigation. The collaboration between students and our experts showcased the immense potential of merging research and industry. 🤝 #techinnovators #machinelearning

ChatGPT, GenAI, Machine Learning... – What´s the difference? 🤔 Terms related to Artificial Intelligence are popping up everywhere. It's completely normal to lose track – but don't worry, we've got you covered! 🧠#ArtificialIntelligence (AI): The broadest field that encompasses all forms of machine intelligence. AI aims to create human-like intelligence in machines that are capable of performing tasks autonomously. 🧠#MachineLearning (ML): A subfield of AI that focuses on developing algorithms and models that can learn from data without being explicitly programmed. ML was the driving force behind the first wave of AI, which began in the 1980s and primarily relied on statistical methods. 🧠#DeepLearning (DL): Another subfield of AI that involves the development of artificial neural networks consisting of multiple layers of interconnected artificial neurons. DL is the driving force behind the second wave of AI, which has been occurring since the 2010s and relies heavily on the availability of large datasets and powerful computing resources. 🧠#GenerativeAI (GenAI): A subset of AI that focuses on developing deep learning models capable of generating new data or content that resembles what they have learned. GenAI is the driving force behind the third wave of AI, which began in the 2020s and primarily relies on the development of so-called transformer models. 🧠#ChatGPT: A specific example of Generative AI, based on the transformer architecture, trained to generate human-like text. ChatGPT can be used in various applications, from answering questions to creating creative content. The development of Artificial Intelligence is advancing rapidly, constantly bringing forth new innovations. We are excited about the endless possibilities that AI advancements will bring. Our commitment is to leverage these cutting-edge technologies to deliver the most innovative and effective AI solutions to Mercedes-Benz AG. Let us know below, which AI applications do you use most frequently? 👇 #techinnovators #GenAI This image is AI generated.

„FOSS is not just a trend – it's a key enabler to overcome future challenges” This powerful message from Magnus Östberg marked the start of the opening speech by Markus Rettstatt at the OpenForum Europe. Markus Rettstatt, Head of Car Software at Mercedes-Benz Tech Innovation, spoke at the EU Open Source Policy Summit 2025 in Brussels and underscored the importance of FOSS in driving innovation and maintaining the EU's competitiveness during his speech. Markus pointed out, that our automotive industry is facing many global challenges: 🚧 Geopolitical tensions (e.g., restrictions on mapping data in China): Limited access to crucial technologies. 🔒 Market fragmentation & proprietary systems: Many companies remain hesitant to embrace Open Source due to IP concerns. ⚡ New software disruptors: Startups leveraging Open Source are challenging traditional automotive software models. 📉 Slow & complex funding structures: Europe risks falling behind if we don’t adapt to the fast pace of software innovation. But even more important is what we can do to overcome these challenges with FOSS: ✅ Standardization through Open Source to boost efficiency & security. ✅ A funding ecosystem that supports fast innovation & smaller players. ✅ Global collaboration: no restrictive regional policies to ensure Europe’s competitiveness. We are delighted that one of our own represented Mercedes-Benz on such an important stage. It fills us with pride to drive Mercedes-Benz forward in the realm of FOSS, contributing to the growth and expansion of the global FOSS community. Together, we are shaping a more innovative and collaborative future for the automotive industry. #techinnovators #opensource #FOSS #leadincarsoftware #mercedesbenz
