Can #uxdesign succeed in a large company at all? Whether and, more importantly, how this is possible was explored by our colleague Sten Anderßen during his Design Talk at the Hochschule Neu-Ulm. He shared his experiences with the pitfalls of design in a corporate environment and the lessons he learned along the way - and we’d like to share a small excerpt with you: 🎯 Understand your audience: Great products are born from understanding and engaging with your target audience. However, be cautious: customer wishes must align with the product and company. Focus on problems rather than wishes, develop solutions within the product team, and test these solutions with users. 🎨 Design heroes vs. ecosystem: In a complex product ecosystem, design heroes face challenges. Creative solutions should seamlessly integrate with existing design systems and style guides to enhance the user experience. 🤝 Team effort: Creating a good user experience is a team effort. Factors like load times, data security, and customer service all impact UX. The UX expert must clearly communicate these responsibilities to the team. 📊Good UX is measurable: Usage data helps identify weaknesses, compare new processes with old ones, and make decisions based on facts rather than good feelings. Data collection is crucial for product development. 🔬 Experiment over perfectionism: Perfectionism has no place in product development. Striving for perfect features leads to long discussions, extended development times, and lack of user input. It's important to experiment and incorporate learnings into development. How can enterprises effectively address the challenges of ensuring software artifact integrity? 🔐 This question was explored by our colleague Tjark Rasche and Microsofts Toddy Mladenov at #KubeCon + #CloudNativeCon North America 2024. They dove into the steps and considerations enterprises must take to select a reliable and future-proof signing technology. This improves the integrity of artifacts in cloud native software supply chains. The session highlighted the questions and constraints faced by enterprises and how these were addressed by the Notary Project. Additionally, it provided an update on the latest features and the roadmap for the Notary Project. Of course we've got some key insights for you: 💡 Ensuring more integrity for #cloudnative workloads in existing enterprise infrastructures is hard. 💡 It gets even harder as these infrastructures tend to be grown and already incorporate solutions for things like PKI and secrets management. 💡 Notary Project's notation CLI is a tool that lends itself very well for these challenges. 💡 It integrates well with any existing infrastructure but also provides well-integrated defaults. A table, chair, and Internet – that’s all you need. 🌞 The requirements for Nicolas Krischker’s #workation were simple. He recently spent 3 weeks working in sunny Mallorca and would love to share some highlights with you: “The process was easier than I thought: upon agreement with my team lead, I dove into planning my first workation. I wanted to be by the sea and in the sun, so we chose Mallorca. My accommodation provided a table, chair, and a solid internet connection – with my office setup ready, the trip could begin. In the end, the planning didn’t differ much from planning a regular vacation. But what did a typical day in Mallorca look like? Each morning started with a coffee and a breathtaking view of the sea. After work, I closed my laptop and headed straight to the beach. Even after the busiest days, those two hours on the beach in the evening were perfect for relaxing. Weekends were all about adventure – we rented a car to explore the island, visited local markets, quaint towns, and different beaches. Thanks to our flexible work schedule, I was able to hit the beach even earlier on Fridays! I found myself filling and experiencing the weekends much more consciously than I ever did in Germany, making the contrast to the workweek truly refreshing. Even though I was working, my workation really felt like a vacation. The amazing view behind my screen just made working easier. But of course, my colleagues couldn’t resist teasing me in meetings, always asking which beach I was heading to after work. 😉 Overall, I can definitely recommend a workation to everyone and I’m grateful that it's possible for us. In my mind, I'm already planning my second workation.” #techinnovators #remotework

How can Inner Source transform your software development? 🚀 Intriguing questions like this were at the heart of #OCX2024, where we were thrilled to participate not just as sponsors but also with three insightful presentations! OCX 2024, hosted by the Eclipse Foundation, is the newly reimagined annual #opensource conference. It's an inclusive space where diverse Open Source communities come together to learn, share, and network. Here’s a recap of our contributions: 💡 Laura Bottner delved into the critical topic of software supply chain security, highlighting the risks posed by both direct and transitive software components with vulnerabilities. She explored various analysis methods to mitigate these risks. 💡 Dr. Wolfgang Gehring talked about unlocking the power of Inner Source to transform software development. He shared insights from Mercedes-Benz’s journey to Inner Source, offering practical advice on overcoming obstacles. 💡 Thilo Schmitt highlighted that to foster collaborative development of a software defined vehicle (SDV) core stack, a common hardware reference platform is essential. He explained that agreeing on a single hardware reference for development will drive the decoupling of software from hardware, a key principle for SDVs.
