We cannot ignore the fact that the pulp and paper industry is ranked as one of the most energy demanding industries worldwide. At the same time, it has some challenges as regards to the environment with all the CO2 emissions. We, at Modellfabrik Papier gGmbH, are trying to look at this situation from a different angle and come up with innovative solutions. During the two FOMOP workshop days, my colleagues presented their work and how they could contribute with their different backgrounds to the sustainability and energy reduction objectives of MFP. It was a great opportunity too to present how quantum physics and chemistry can contribute, from a different perspective, to achieving our goals. In fact, Computational chemistry was and still is used at some point to understand cellulose as polymer and its relationship with water, however it is not yet applied in the papermaking process itself. The discussion with our scientific partners was fruitful and effective. Looking forward to our next meetings and scientific exchanges. #energy #sustainability #CO2emission #cellulose #polymer #paper #pulp #industry
